Which other heavyweight who was active in 1990 could beat Tokyo Tyson? Me thinks Holyfield. But not much else. Tyson would maul the 1990 versions of Lewis and Bowe, especially Lewis. Tyson would stop Morrison in 2 rounds and i am a Morrison fan. Bottom line: Only Holyfield and Douglas beat Tokyo Tyson in 1990. Not much else.
According to the ring 1989 rankings (april 1990 date, but in guessing it was published around dec 89) the top 10 heavys were 1 Tyson 2 Holyfield - probably beats Tyson 3 Dokes - Tyson probably KOs him 4 Damiani - I havent seen enough of Damiani to comment 5 Witherspoon - No way King makes this fight after falling out with Witherspoon 6 Orlin Norris - This fight happened, though much later. I think Tyson still wins 7 Buster Douglas 8 Carl Williams - Tyson KO again 9 Razor Ruddock - Gonna be tough maybe Ruddock pulls it out 10 Gary Mason - Havent seen enough of Mason
I'm sure Tyson would've been in shape for Holyfield. But would it have mattered? I'm on the fence with that one because there's no way Tyson and Bobby Brown are banging 12 geisha girls from dusk till dawn when Holyfield is your opponent in less than 10 hours.
Tyson would've taken Holyfield more seriously than Douglas but if you're placing that Tyson against Holyfield, I'd say Holyfield wins via split decision after a brutal 12 rounds.
Tyson was interviewed in the can by The Ring or something similar, so very early 90's, pre internet.forums ect when magazines were still relevant . He went thru all his opponents and claimed that after Spinks he should have been beaten and was surprised it lasted until Douglas.....so in fact he believed Bruno and Williams could pull it of. He did not offer any excuses except his head was not into boxing 100% anymore and avoided the Gym as much as possible after Spinks. And no, a young Tyson will never ever loose to a 40 plus year old like old foreman.........neither would prime ali/Holmes/Foreman/Bowe/lewis/Holyfield etc etc loose to a old fossil, aint gonna happen, period...............all the prime fighters above would absolute murder old Wk/Vk, Povetkin etc etc.....and Holyfield used Foreman as a heavy bag, Tyson ko'ed Holmes not even in his 40's clean out......marciano dismantled old louis and so on.
