Why is that suicidal ?! Foreman was slow and lacked accuracy. Also, there are punchers out there that hit just as hard, if not harder.
So, a skilled ATG with punching power can more than back Foreman and out-land him.

I don't remember "a prime Liston" being "hurt badly" at all with the possible exception of his bouts with Williams. I agree with the rest of this post

    LOL@you

Usyk aint got a prayer......Fury aint got the chin.....Lewis too chinny aka one shotted twice against bums and could not take the pace.......VK stepped up twice and lost twice while getting his face carved up by a old shot Lewis, he will be literally mince meat.......Liuston aint got the stones while hitting Foreman with his best shots and Foreman keeps on coming, he will quit........Holyfield aint out brawling him no way, he will be forced into a fire fight.........glass chinned WK will have a panic attack just walking into the Ring.

Zaire in the 70's was a 4th world Hell hole and everything there was pure shid.....including the conditions they had to train and fight in.

Holmes, Tyson, Bowe are the obvious choices, all granite chins, come to win, punch in combinations and you have to kill them to make them stay down.

Nowhere in my post did I say that whoever replaces Ali in Zaire has to use the exact same rope a dope strategy.

And the strategy was far from stupid. It was one of the most brilliant performances of Ali's career.

Yes I was referring to Williams. He was also hurt by Folley but he didn't go down in either fight. But it's worth noting.

Foreman didn't lack accuracy. He was painfully accurate and aimed for vital spots like the bridge of the nose, the kidneys, the temple, jaw, etc.

Not sure how many guys at HW who'd outland Foreman in a slug fest he had long arms and never stopped throwing bombs.

In hindsight it looks that way, but if Foreman would have flattened Ali, nobody would think that way anymore.

It was a brilliant performance regardless. It was the perfect game plan to neutralize Foreman's relentless juggernaut tactics and only someone with nerves of steel and the ability to roll with shots, counter, clinch effectively (not just hug), and had insane body endurance and will power could have executed that game plan without getting themselves knocked the **** out.

In my opinion it's the single greatest win in the history of boxing considering the circumstances.

True, but unless you have someone as fast as Ali, who's able to avoid Foreman's punches, the tactic is dumb and won't work.

Holyfield for one, if he boxes Foreman until Foreman tires. IMHO, of course. (There are probably others, who could turn the trick on Zaire Foreman.)

You must be related to Holyfield because you constantly pump him ........

Holyfieled had no easy time with fossil Foreman............could never get a handle against Bowe, could not put a dent into Lewis, needed two tries against glass chinned Moorer, was rocked to the core by crack head Cooper.......but but but but Tyson......

I concede he will go out on his shield but he aint beating Foreman in Zaire, he is getting counted out.

Lewis, Fury, Vitali, Holmes, and Holyfield could get the job done if they're focused. Vitali would just have to rely on his chin and gigantic size advantage and wait for Foreman to gas himself out because he wouldn't box well enough to frustrate Foreman and i think he could rely on his physical advantages

Foreman is elite but overrated. He had a much harder time with guys that could box well going backwards, see the Jimmy Young fight, and a huge puncher like Lewis that could not only box and enjoy the size and reach advantage over Foreman could also catch him outside of range with huge shots that could stun Foreman and allow Lewis to finish him off like he did Golota and Ruddock. see the Ron Lyle fight.

I'm not positive about Lewis...Ali took at least a couple of shots flush, extraordinary shots. I don't think LL or Fury could do that and not lose. However, I give Lewis by far a better chance.

Holmes would have stopped him in 8 to 10, Holy....

Holy is trickier. It all depends on whether EH decides to punch it out. If he does, he's doomed. If he doesn't....if he plays it out a bit like the first Tyson fight, staying very active and parrying the heaviest blows, he could stop George in 11.

It was a MONSTER win, especially considering Foreman won the title again 20 years later.

Im positive about Lewis, Foreman would not fight Lewis like he fought Ali, he'd fight Lewis like he fought Ron Lyle. Foreman knew he had to shut down Ali's quick lateral movement and knew he could outbrawl him. Against Lewis i suspect he'd be more cautious with his pressure because of Lewis's heavy jab, his raw power and he would have monster rights ready when Foreman moves into range like Lyle did. Lewis also know a thing or two about infighting. The Mercer fight was tremendous with the exchanges Fury would be gigantic compared to Foreman and a lot stronger than Ali based on him manhandling huge guys easily. Although he wouldn't be able to run forever. He's slick though. If he survived he'd beat Foreman but im not too sure he would.
