I've always felt that a prime Joe Louis circa Max Baer fight would have left George on the canvas. Short, explosive and violent. Louis had the quickness (hands) accuracy and combinations. I just keep seeing Foreman walking in with his head in the air thinking this is just another fight.
Alot of people would be surprised i guess. They shouldn't be.

George Foreman fought one of the worst fights I've seen in Zaire. At least in regards to strategy, poise, balance. He was the Washington Generals to Ali's Globetrotters.

The Brown Bomber getting slept on in this thead. He had dynamite and a quicker,, refined delivery.

Regardless I still think Lewis beats any version of Foreman. He'd be getting the best of him at range and when Foreman gets close Lewis would just clinch, break and reset. Lewis himself was strong and had good clinching ability against smaller men like Foreman or larger men like Grant.

I agree totally. Ali made Foreman look like a total tool in that fight. George was flailing around like an amateur in there with zero poise and technique, whilst Ali was hitting him with solid jabs, leads and hooks. Pure outclassing by one Muhammad Ali, and an embarrassing night for Big George.

In their actual fight Young was in danger of being ko'd,,he said ,"if George had so much as sneezed I would have fallen over.Foreman was down for a flash k'd which caught him coming in.When did Young ever ,"choose to go for it?"

I answered that way because the thread question was "could," not "did." Young could have gone for it, based on him actually beating and KD'ing Foreman in real life. Foreman wasn't exactly in good fettle by the end of that fight, considering he was having visions afterward. Add the Zaire heat and hostile crowd...

I don't think Louis was prime for Max ,excellent performance though it was.

The Brown Bomber was a much more precise, and dynamic puncher than Foreman could dream to be. If this hypothetical fight was only about who had the best technique, and used better combo punching, Louis wins hands down.
But we must deal with reality, and quite a few on this site put blinders on when it comes to J. Louis and his defensive laspes and multiple knock downs over his career .
Sure he got up to win those fights but the question is why did it happen in the 1st place and against that level of competition.
Does anyone believe Tony Galento knocks down G.Foreman?
How about Billy Conn hurting him as badly as he hurt Louis?
And that's where in my opinion he'd lose to Foreman. Not on what he could dish out, but what he could take.
And I know this is sacrilegious to some but some of the better, harder punching and skilled heavyweights in history would be a very serious threat to J. Louis. That fact in my opinion is easy to see if one looks at his career with out sentimental love .
Fighters like Frazier, Foreman, Lewis, Liston, Holyfield, Tyson and a few others would be just as dangerous to Louis as he would for them, a few like Foreman and Liston even more so.

    it's a bad question
ali only used the ropes cause he couldnt move good like he used to a in shape ali outboxes him

joe they say always loses to George but a in shape joe makes it a tougher match sense this George didnt push much
joe still loses but Is harder to put down instead of falling 6 he only gets stopped by the 2nd fall

mike easy win George reflexes was bad
    his timing was bad
he wouldnt fight mike right nobody ever beat mike brawling they had to fight smart
George was to slow to land much

lennox the best tallest skilled boxer ever ko to George he is to sloopy and slow to land much
Lennox is way to good at keeping distance to be hit often

I wont name others it's no need
