I can't be the only one to have seen it. It would be my pleasure to upload but due to computer viruses it's no longer mine. It's a fine display of punching prowess and probably my #1 in that regard, in any division. Williams endures an early onslaught to exact revenge in the same round; a sharp left hook floors Gatica. He rises, is hit by another well-timed left hook, and falls again. Upon rising he's met by a small whirlwind, all four of Williams' punches connecting to the head; an uppercut, two hooks and a right, and Gatica just crumbles. It's the controlled fury of the delivery. Williams wasn't a consistent puncher, but when he really let loose he might be the most vicious I've seen.
Isaw the prime Ike Williams Ko Beau Jack in Philly 1948...He was at his peak then..The fight with Gatica was in 1951 when Ike wasn't the same destructive puncher...But at his peak he was the best lightweight I ever saw ....
This is what makes it all the more remarkable. Williams was on the way down - it was his Louis-Savold performance.
I haven't seen it I'll have to try and view it, maybe You Tube? Williams said his best performance was against Bolanos in 49 . Ike had 9 fights in 51 ,only winning 5 of them, its strange he managed to squeak a dec from Jack, yet lost to lesser lights that year.
It's not on Youtube. I don't even know where I got the old copy, I think it was a lucky download about four years ago. Haven't even seen the fight in about two years, but I watched it so many times that I remember the finish today.
For most fans who have not seen Williams its always a pleasure for someone to fire-up his destruction of Beau Jack for an introduction, but his icing of Jose Gatica is just as impressive. In terms of a showcase of a mastered arsenal, Williams/Gatica is one the all-time 1st round KO's.
