who else here hates UK commentary?

Yep at the moment i'm not impressed by the commentating i'm hearing. They seem to lack technical and tactical input of the U.S guys and also i feel it's getting stale and i have noticed the biased towards home fighters. I like Darke because he can capture a moment in a fight if there's a stoppage coming he has the right voice and also recently has stepped to Watt's bullcrap comments.

Adam Smith annoys me with this ''sorry for language'' even on sky box office after 9. It's a working class sport and i doubt anyone will be offended if there watching it.

 

Sometimes I watch fights just to listen to Lampley and Merchant - such a breath of fresh air.

 

Ian Darke is definately the best of a bad bunch at the moment, I think hes actually quite knowledgeable and he knows how to capture the mood of of a fight, but Adam Smith and Jim Watt can really do my head in. Watts commentary in the Haye fight and Smiths in particular during Mayweather v Marquez was pretty awful.

 

Jimm Watt's the worst, and John Rawling !!

The other main British commentators are sound i think !


Jim Watt repeats himself too much, says the same lines every fight like - He's legs are gone - his eyes are gone - hes gone Ian - hes Badly Hurt... ETC

 

I don't hate it, but there is certainly room for improvement. As others have said, Darke is the best out of the crop - needs a bit of freshening up though, maybe add a 3rd commentator (McCrory isn't bad, and when Nelson was drafted in once he wasn't bad either - or bring in a new face like Woodhall/Bunce etc. a proven commentator) or just get rid of Watt and Smith all together and add one of the aforementioned commentators in their place, although I must admit I don't hate Watt as much as others do on here

 

HBO have fallen behind as well. Bernstein is the most tactical and technical i have heard in a while and he is consistent. He won't go off talking **** because he doesn't kow the fighters on the undercard he will take a minute to figure them out and talk about what they should do. HBO usually just bring up some facts about him or talk about the main event until something happens in the fight.

Sky is a bit stale 3 yes men in the studio one yes man beside Watt most of the time. How can 5 people all knowledgeable in boxing have the same opinions on a fighter.

Bernstein is fantastic to listen to. Love the sport and knows a lot.
Sky is stale as you say it's just got the same faces saying the same things and scared to say something out of order.

 

watching uk commentary probably isnt so bad if your rootin for the british fighter.

i try to watch fights with polish commentary anytime a polish fighter is on cause i could at least understand and feel the vibe that they are saying / explaining, where as guys like merchant lampley etc... all commentate from a neutral point of view.

 

With HBO commentary they don't mute the roar of the crowd as SKY do:fire I was at the Cotto/Pacman fight & the atmosphere was bounching but when i got home & watched it on SKY it sounded like a "chapel of rest! when Watt/Smith were yapping. I know setanta was shite IMO but at least we got the yank commentary & real time atmosphere coming through & not the muted SKY version, yer need to hear the roaring/screaming fans more:good

 

Jim Watt did a great job on the Haye fraud non-fight.

 

john rawlins is a country mile ahead of anyone in the uk imo,very knowledgeable
