In which case I still see the WBO as inferior. It has no history compared to the other three, has rarely been attached to a unified champion and their rankings are shocking. Gary Lockett and Michael Jennings instantly spring to mind.

    It's not about history.

I made it plain in my post that the WBA WAS (past tense) the belt to have at one time.

(I'm not going to redo the whole post.

Someone else pointed out to you earlier in the thread that Barerra and Mosley and Wlad held WBO belts and were regarded as the champs at the time.

You tried to twist that into a comparison of the careers and accomplishments of those three compared to Calzaghe.

That was not the poster's point. If you can't separate the components of an argument and differentiate the issues being discussed, there's little point in engaging.)

MY point is, that contrary to what you and others have said, the WBO belt, like the other belts, is as legitimate or illegitimate as its holder.

Mayweather, RJJ, Oscar are just three who come to mind who have held belts but never unified.

Calzaghe is one of about half a dozen boxers in the last 10 or 15 years who did hold ALL the belts at a weight.

^ I also offered a direct riposte to the point he was making with the Wlad, DLH, MAB comparison.

Mayweather won the true title form Baldomir, not his fault he was stripped of the others. DLH unified belts in two divisions (one if, like me, you don't recognise WBO). Jones held all three belts at light heavy.

not if his opponent didn't want to fight in america. Jones already saw it first hand in korea that it's not a good idea to fight in your opponent country. At least in america judges can be fair no matter what race you are.

What YOU recognize is not significant. Reality is what counts.

I see the same thing all the time from posters who say they don't recognize Floyd as undefeated since he lost (by their reckoning) to Castillo, or don't recognize Taylor as a champ since he 'lost' twice to BHOP.

Fact is, Mayweather, Oscar nor Roy ever held all the belts.

And btw, at which two weights did Oscar unify ?

First, I'm a fan of Roy.

He's the best of his generation at ANY weight.

He was robbed in Korea in the Olympics.

    Now as to your

comment, this is a COMPLETE LOAD OF ****.

(Low quality, soft, runny **** at that.)

Seoul was payback for some very biased judging in Los Angeles in 1984.

Not right, but there it is.

And you have as many if not more, questionable decisions in the US as anywhere else.

    Holyfield-Lewis (1) ?

Was there ever a more blatant robbery in the last 30 years ?

    Sturm v Oscar ?

I could cite more, but the point is made.

The US has had as may shitty decisions as any other jurisdiction.

Well, if you wasted your career fighting mostly retired firemen why not go out of the game beaten as one.

It was funny at first but then I grew angry for Joe clowning a clearly shot legend. I felt bad for Jones in that fight almost too hard to watch. He used to do the same things to others as Calzaghe did to him. It had to be very humbling to say the least.

Yes, and that would be the first Juan Coggi-Eder Gonzalez fight.

That might be the most blatant robbery ever.

When was I proven wrong regarding Hopkins?, as far as I know they claimed Hopkins priced his self out and wasn't worth the more money he demanded. Why is that?, who was the one with major victories at the time?, who had a major win over Trinidad?, compare that win at the time with whatever Calzaghe has done. Not just that, but Calzaghe also demanded that these guys should go to Wales and fight him, so that's going to Wales, getting less money and moving up in weight.

Look man, the US has its share of rubbish decisions and bull**** circus acts but compared to the rest it seems to be the best place to host a fight. You want to compare Oscar/Sturm or Lewis/Holyfield I with the laughable circus show Hatton/Tszyu was or McClellan/Benn?

Sturm didn't go back to his hometown damaged/retired nor did Lewis, if you know what I mean.

I think the main reason Hopkins pulled out of that fight and wanted more money was because of the amount of money Don King was going to take. The same happened for a proposed bout with Toney at CW after Toney beat Jirov.

I don't think it's a coincidence that Hopkins spent 2002-03 in smaller bouts, then once he split from Don King, started fighting the big money fights again.

Jones stopped trying to knock people out after Mcllelan was injured.
The reason why Calzaghe gets limited respect it because he never took a fight that could be considered even terms. He always took fights where he felt he had an advantage. He only fought Hopkins because he felt like Hopkins was old.
