You put a title on stating who else though Jones Jr deserved his beating , then a poll asking again did Jones deserve his embarrasing beating as you put it , then you bang on about how much you hate JC and how much you love Jones , what a stupid dumb ass thread !!!!!!!!

Anyway i feel i must answer your stupid question anyway , firstly in his prime yes clearly Jones would of been a greater test to Calzaghe , and yes id have given him the nod on that one as Calzaghe was probably at his career best when he fought Jones and back in the late 90's wasnt half the fighter he was in 06 , 07 & 08

I went through mixed emotions in this fight at first i was glad to see Jones getting outclassed and bashed about a bit , but then it became crystal clear to me that Jones was way past his best and the fight was a true mis match , then i became very sad to see a great champion and once P4P king go out like that !!!!!!!!!!!!! , one thinks he must be fighting for $$$$$$ , which is sad i think .........

He deserved the beating for giving a piece of garbage that openly ducked him in his prime a chance to do what he did when he's past it. It's just a major surprise for me how Calzaghe all of a sudden agreed to move up in weight and also travel to America, two things he was COMPLETELY against, when both Hopkins and Jones were beyond shot.

You can say what you like about Joe Calzaghe i know the Americans dont give him the respect we British do for several reasons which we can go on all night about , but from a boxing perspective to Call Calzaghe a peice of garbage is just a complete dumb ass remark !!!!!!!!! , however if you are referring to Joe Calzaghe the man then yes he could be a bit of an arsehole at times !!!!!!!!!!!

    well said, all of it.

theres definitely a middle ground if someones being objective about calzaghe because its extremely ignorant and blinkered to call the man anything other than an excellent fighter, but the other side of the coin is that its equally blinkered to refer to him as a great fighter.

perhaps he could have been a great fighter, but nobody can argue a case for it when the fighter himself chose never to pursue greatness.

calzaghe had great talent and in the end, proved himself a great fighter. possible the best 168 pounder ever based on longevity and dominance in his later years. arrogant ***** who avoided challenges? yes that to. i won't dispute that roy didn't pursue the best and certainly the same can be said of joe. their talent however, cannot be questioned

exactly, it goes both ways. jones at least fought toney, reggie johnson (VERY GOOD fighter) and hopkins in their primes. joe c wasn't a name or any body until lacy. he was best known for NOT fighting johnson

I'm a massive Calzaghe fan but I have great respect for Jones. He tried to get back to the top by fighting the best and fell short. He's still a talented fighter, just no longer elite level.

i agree with all of that except the part where you call joe a great fighter.
i dont see how anyone can justify that considering how he chose his career path.

another fair comment. he proved his heart AFTER his talent left him.

he has two good wins, that's it. but i think his talent and longevity push him to greatness. watching him in the ring and he had a great skillset. it would unfair calling him "good".

An equally fair question is WTF was Joe doing fighting Jones when Joe stated in his autobiography that Jones was past it. I'll tell you what, he wanted an easy low risk payday against a once Marquee name he knew no longer had what it took to give him a good fight. I really like Joe C but I think he should have gone out fighting someone more dangerous like Bute, Froch or Dawson.

EDIT : Calzaghe went out fighting an exhibition rather than a live opponent IMO.

Jones faced more "CREDIBLE" Opposition at the time

Griffin, Tarver, Hill, Reggie Johnson were all regarded higher than Joe.

Joe only became a CREDIBLE foe in 2005, Jones lost that year....

Joe was a minor world champ at supermiddle at the time....U would have criticised Jones for beating a blown up supermiddle at the time.

COMON!!!...even Lacy was expected to beat JOE rofl....thats how poorly regarded he was
