If he believes that Jones was in his prime against Calzaghe, and even now, then something is wrong with his definition of that word.

A prime Jones could have dealt Calzaghe his first loss. No way Calzaghe would have done those antics to a prime Jones either.

But Jones was out of his mind when he still went on in his fight against him. He knew what was coming right there. It might be silly, but I think by agreeing to that "exhibition" fight, he allowed himself to be beaten and treated like that, especially by a fighter whose showboating is very much awkward to watch.

I don't think anyone with half a brain actually believes Jones was in his prime in 2008. People often say stupid **** like that just to see who takes the ****.

Both guys had declined, but Jones obviously much moreso.

rjj used to showboat, clown, dance etc... against no hopers. i.e put his hands behind his back, slip a jab then KO a sanitation worker.

it was a case of the shoe being on the other foot.

That's related to the point, the one who did pathetic showboating against bartenders from Wales is actually Calzaghe. What made the world recognize Jones is that he did it successfully against elite fighters. Calzaghe was trying to do it with Hopkins and whenever he got countered he was wobbly. Jones was doing it against guys in his league and young fresh opponents, not past it guys thinking he'll look awesome.

and just to add a bit, that was part of his ring personality. everyone knows there was a shift in his style in the mid-late 90's. he stopped trying to knock every mother****er out and had some fun in there. he was the cocky *****, dominating world class opponent and having fun doing in. it wasn't malicious: it was Roy. When calzaghe did it, it was a bitter **** who never got any respect trying to beat it out of a faded legend while strutting and making every effort to embarass him. two very different things

I don't know what any of this is supposed to mean. 'Deserved'? Deserved it how? For not fighting Calzaghe back when he was a superstar and Calzaghe was a WBO nobody? Why would he do that. You make it sound like the beating he got from slappy was humiliating. I hate to break it to you, but's it's Calzaghe who should be embarrassed. He will forever be known as the gangly, feather-punching, overprotected, upstart hack who disrespected a legend. Totally weak act. Imagine if Carl Froch got Ray Leonard in the ring and danced uncoordinated, embarrassing moves in his face while he beat him up. That's an analagous example of what people think of Calzaghe for the Jones fight.

    :yep:yep:yep

That's the truth right there, Jones was a middleweight who clowned around with light heavyweights and then clowned a Heavyweight champion (and we all know he wasn't the best heavyweight champion before the haters step in)

Slappy Joe was a complete **** who avoided decent fighters his whole career and had absolutely no class when he finally had the nuts to fight the guys he'd avoided his whole career, knowing they'd get old before he did. Slappy Joe deserves absolute contempt for that, not adoration. If he'd had the testicles to fight Jones and Hopkins when they both had something to offer then he'd have been horribly embarrassed.
