Disagree, mate. Tyson/Holyfield didn't happen because Buster Douglas happened. A guy that was supposed to get outclassed and go out on his ass. His win over the favorite, heading for a mega fight, was one of the most sensational and interest-generating things we've had in the sport's history. And why not in this case? Fighters BECOME stars. Is it some kind of rule that having a couple stars stay as big as possible is better than just having more stars developing?

Pacweather is just better for the sport? Why? I don't think it's better for the sport to pretend that two men are the sport, to be honest. And people rooting for the underdog tends to be a big boon for the sport too. Why discourage it in this case? Because Pacweather is the savior of the sport? My ass. Pacweather could turn out to be another relatively uninspiring performance like ODLH/Mayweather. Just like any fight could. Why put so much stock into one fight? What's good for boxing is good competition among many fighters, not being dependent on two guys.

Pacweather draws in the casuals and can make hard core fans out of casuals. How entertaining Pacweather will be is besides the point. Boxing is on the decline. Especially compared to the 80's. A superfight like Pacweather would be fantastic for the sport as a whole. You are way off the mark.

A big band-aid over a gaping wound might not be as good as multiple stitches. Either case, I'm done with this one. :hi:

But was what Douglas did to Tyson good for boxing? No it wasn't. all you got was buster, a **** champion putting on tons of weight fighting Holyfield, making a mockery of the world title, and the interest in that fight was just a slight proportion of the interest it would of generated if Tyson beat Douglas, and then fought Holyfield. Basically, buster ruined a bigger fight that would of created more interest, and therefore put more casuals in the seats. The Buster Douglas-Tyson fight hit the headlines, but the fight was already done when it hit the headlines, the damage was already caused, so the hype was over now just as hit the headlines. Basically to attract huge amount of hype, you need two superstars, and when you got that, and it starts hitting the headlines in the paper, in the news during the build-up, then the casuals get curious, and watch. Simple as that really. Mega fights attracts casuals.

if pac loses and floyd wins or the reverse happened and pac wins and floyd loses, i won't blame either one for choosing each other especially if they lose a close one. boxing also is a business and i perfectly understand that a fight between the two is still the biggest even if both lose. some luster would be taken off but you can't deny their past achievements.

of course as boxing fans, we want the best versus the best but i would not lose any sleep if they decided to fight it out no matter what happens.

    This is ******ed.

I'm a Clottey fan. So are you saying Clottey himself should be pulling against himself for the good of boxing, or he's not a true boxing fan????

GTFOH with that ****. Boxing doesn't need no ****ing superfight. Boxing needs more good matchups.

You said it was more impressive in your original post.

And if you don't realize a 14th Round stoppage over the Hitman is more impressive than a 12th Round stoppage over Miguel Cotto, then all I have to say is that it's not your fault...

    Don't worry about it...:good

Same here, but I won't be buying the fight. I can't support a guy that's been playing unfairly as far as I know and as far as he wants/is willing to demonstrate. Can't believe there's still ppl that buy into his lies after so many contradictory statements... IN A COURT OF LAW HERE IN THE US, that would've been MORE THAN ENOUGH to get a guilty verdict against you... <<< That one is 4 the ppl that claim his innocense until proven guilty,..:yep Anyways, I would be really glad if Clottey could pull the upset but not likely!

I'm really pulling for Clottey. I saw a documentary on PBS and it detailed the careers of some boxers from Ghana and he was one of them featured. I think he has a legitimate shot he probably would have beat Margarito if not for breaking his hand

    This is the thing...

Pac doesn't make statements. But you can't tell me he isn't well aware of the people who talk on his behalf.

If margo has to be responsible for everyone in his corner... Pac is responsible for everyone in his camp. Afterall, he's paying them.
