how anybody can justify a catchweight for a championship belt....is ludicrous..

if a fighter wants to move up in weight...for a belt..you cant make the champion...come in at a lower weight.... thats plain nonsense....

have catchweight fights ..thats coo..but not for the belts of the division

and these fighters need to start fighting at there real weights...thats why boxing has gone down hill

it should go back to...weighing in... on the day.... of the fight......

so fighters actual fight at their weight....

fighters... rehydrating...10-15lbs...means they should be fighting in that weight class....not the 2 below......

    same for all..combat sports.....

    go back to pre '83.......

The belts are meaningless.. It doesn't matter. If it takes a catch weight to make a fight like Pac-Cotto or Williams-Martinez, then by all means.. I don't care if there is a crappy ABC belt on the line.. It's about who you fight, not which belts you won.

Not really....Martinez said he could make 156, and the guys always in spectacular shape. AND this is coming from a guy who cannot stand Mayweather!!!
If he beat Martinez at 155, and no robberies took place...Yeah, I'd give Floyd full credit. No different than Pac beating Cotto at 145 (in which Cotto weighed 146 a few months prior), and I gave him 100% credit.

I honestly don't see the point in a pound or two...Like Cotto for example. I can understand Margarito, and the huge weight difference with him and Pac, but it seriously didn't matter either way.

Catchweights have always been around. If they're used for two top fighters to meet in between two weights in order to get the fight done, I don't have a problem with it. What I don't like is what DLH has Alvarez doing, using 150 as a catch weight to either drain bigger opponents, or drag up smaller ones. If he was fighting elite guys, then not much of a problem, but he's not, he's fighting old shot fighters and c level guys. That has to stop.
Martinez-Mayweather at 156 would be awesome!

the belts just add a little bit of hype to the fight. The catchweights are there so that the bigger fighter doesn't have an unfair advantage on the smaller fighter.

    I don't mind.

if it was a true, pure championship, I'd say it sucks.

would i mind mayweather vs martinez @ a catchweight....

    not at all...

aslong as its ...not ....for the 160 belt.....

if mayweather wants to fight for the 160 belt...then the champ should weight 160...

thats why it would be better to back to...... day of..weigh ins.....

so the champs of their divisions..are actual close to that weight division...day of the fight..

I hate, nay despise, any and all catchweights. Hate. There are weight classes. Fight at them.

    Who cares about the belts.

I just love the action inside the ring. It is exciting to see smaller fighters fighting bigger guys in a catch weight. The anticipation for the action and result is what makes it worthwhile.

It's funny how people cry about ALL the belts in boxing, but it's still of lot of those that GIVE these belts and ABC's their pull, their prowers.

unfortunatley i believe the belts arent as important as yesteryear...

but they(belts) still count when its replacing records in the record books...

    fact....

    maybe like baseball..they need asterisk.....
