Agreed. Hopkins didn't do enough after around the 4th round on. He just didn't throw enough punches, or press the action. Yes, Joe landed a lot of pitter-pat punches, but he was the one making the fight, throwing his hands and being the aggressor. He also wasn't faking low blows, exaggerating low blows, complaining about nonexistent blows to the back of the head, walking to the wrong corner 4 times at the bell, etc. I love Hopkins, but this fight was not as close, IMO, as many make it out to be. Once Calz figured out Hopkins' style he dictated the fight. Similar to what he did with Kessler. It took him a few rounds to understand what he had to do, but then he did it. If they rematched, the biggest difference would be Joe would start the fight knowing what he had to do, and likely wouldn't end up on his ass in the first round. And the fight would be ugly, and both guys would be older.
I scored it the same.. Calzaghe did land more punches, but it all depends on how you want to score rounds. Judges didn't give Hops credit for his defense, ring generalship, and the fact that he landed cleaner, crisper, and more efficient blows.
I dunno if I'm right or wrong, but I count Ring Generalship as controlling the fight. Neither of them did it in this fight. I scored it 115-112 for Calzaghe BTW.
After KO the Hopkins fought in low spurts Joes was just busier ..And the faking of the injuries didn't help much that was hardly ring general ship ..
Calzaghe won fair and square plus why didn't Hopkins followup on any of his punches? because he wasn't allowed to and looked very very limited offensively in that fight.
