Andre Dirrell is next fighter US slickster I have high hopes for. Not embarrassed about saying that. Hopefully he can pick up where Roy left off.. Great prospect.

Obviousy Serge and that other idiot arent going to change their oppinions so its best to just leave it at that and not argue.

Everyone who knows boxing who saw Roy at his prime knows what they were looking at.
Kovalev loses by competitive UD or Bodyshot ko like Hill, he was bothered by ward with bodyshots and if Kovalev gasses out against Roy oh my.

Roy beats Ward very very easily Ward is not in Roys league. I think Roy could actually pull a KO 1 against ward if he came out aggressive.

Stevenson(best version of stevenson) would be a good test stylistically but he'd lose a UD because Roy wouldnt be aggressive enough to stop him unless its to the body.

Beterbiev would be a problem for any version of Roy 2000 and later when he started spending more time on the ropes.

Roys chin was just fine before the tarver KO people who dont think your punch resistance cant be wiped out by a single concussion dont know anything about boxing. Dr. Margaret goodman and Emanuel Steward talked about Roys brain damage. Roy took punches against Ruiz, Griffin in the first fight and tarver in the first fight that would have knocked him out cold after tarver 2.
He took a few Muay thai elbows from telesco to the head without blinking.

"Had, would've" but it didn't happen. And you can honestly think that Roy would've lost to any savage punchers earlier all you want Scourge but I'm still trying to find out that savage punchers that would've kod him. Give us a list. Don't throw us names Scourge. Create a real list of these savage punchers that would've kod Roy during his career.
You came up with this after the man went to hvw and back down to lhw and after age 35. Foh lmao

Okay, you've reeled me in. But let's be serious for a moment.

Again, I have so much respect for Steve. He wanted Roy bad. And there's only a handful of guys who legitimately wanted to fight Roy when he was at his peak. But I could never understand it myself. What made him think he could have beaten Roy? I admired his confidence, but I think he was kidding himself. Roy was completely on another level. He was coming off of 2 close fights with Eubank, and he'd beaten a faded version of Benn.

I really wish Roy had fought him. Because heart and determination can only take you so far. He would never have beaten Roy. I know you like to cause trouble on these threads, and I love it. I absolutely love your posts. But in all seriousness, do you honestly believe he'd have beaten Roy? I think he'd have gone at Roy like a train. Like a man possessed. But I think that by the 2nd half of the fight, Roy would have slowed him down on route to a pretty clear UD. I think Steve thinks he was better than what he was. I know styles make fights, but nobody could watch those fights against Eubank etc, and then have favoured him over Roy.

Regarding those call outs from early 1997, what you've got to take into account, is that at the time, Roy was the WBC, LHW champ, who was preparing to fight Griffin. And as great and as confident as Steve was, to Roy and the rest of the U.S. he was only a WBO champ in the division below. In 1995 and 1996, Roy and his team had tried to unify the SMW with Benn and Liles. But Liles didn't want it, and Don King and Roy's handlers, the Levin's, couldn't reach a compromise for a Benn fight. So when those fights weren't possible to make, Roy moved up. And whilst Roy was preparing to fight Griffin, he had his sights set on Hill afterwards. But after the outcome of that first fight, he was hell bent on revenge. And by the time of the rematch in August, 1997, Dariusz M had already beaten Hill. At which point, Roy was looking for a mega money fight. So he approached Evander Holyfield, and then he ended up signing to fight "Buster" Douglas. The only realistic shot Steve had, was to move up to LHW, and either beat Roy to one of the other main belts that was stripped from Dariusz, or become his mandatory. Other than that, there wasn't any hope. Because Roy would have wanted big money to go to the U.K. and a fight in the U.S. wouldn't have been considered a big fight. Although Steve was highly respected in the U.S. he wasn't classed as a great fighter.

Regarding his in-ring confrontation in 1999, me and Zod discussed it at length about 2-3 years ago. From all the information gathered, it appears as though Roy told his advisor, Stan Levin, to make the fight. But after speaking with his other advisor, Murad Muhammad, who he'd just brought on board, he was influenced to unify against Reggie Johnson instead. And Lou De Bella of HBO, also preferred a Johnson fight, as Steve hadn't fought for 2 years.

If you look at things logically, I really don't see how you could make a case for the notion that Roy feared him. In my honest opinion, Steve wasn't ducked. Roy just went with what he thought were better options at the time. Everyone's circumstances are different. We know that Steve was preparing to fight Joe in 1997, but he didn't have the motivation to go through with it. And that's fair enough. But there's really no difference in Steve not wanting to fight Joe, and Roy not having wanted to fight Steve. It's only fair to look at things from every angle. And if Steve had been in Roy's shoes, looking ahead to big fights, he may not have wanted to have fought Roy, especially If Roy had been in the division below holding a lesser title. We just don't know.

I dont deal with hypotheticals, the only sure way to know who would have won is if they both got in the ring and squared off. In my opinion Kovalev destroys everyone Roy has ever fought including Roy himself, but I wouldnt know for sure unless they fought prime for prime.

    Great post mate.

Serge is a great poster though. He's just fishing for his own amusement.

That other clown needs to be left alone, that is of course unless you're a psychiatrist.
