Who else was impressed by Garcia's timing and counter punching?

Garcia has underrated boxing ability. I noticed his skills against EM.

I was impressed with the manner in which Garcia implemented his game plan. During the first two rounds he concentrated on shooting the right up-stairs, and switched the focus of the attack to the body in the third. Even if he lost the first two, and even though he was starting to bust up, he kept on with the task of giving Khan different looks and that helped him to set up the hook that effectively ended the fight.

 

Garcia is dangerously under rated, I would advise any top guy gunning for his titles, to consider a proper game plan of effective fighting him on the outside. In exchanges, Good night.

agreed, that's what impressed me most too. he kept his cool and he showed the poise of a veteran when he didn't blow his load and throw a million punches like Angulo vs Kirkland after he had Khan hurt. he took his time and picked his shots like a pro, shopwed a lot of maturity in the young champ. he's definetly a well schooled and well rounded fighter

 

Gotta love how idiotic most of ESB fans are. The punch that caused the end was a complete fluke. The punch was a hail mary while he was not even looking at Khan.

Fact is he got lucky. Even in the 4th round he had no idea how to finish a nearly out
Khan. If Khans balance had been there he would have whooped his ass.
I saw Garcia just throw punches at Khans gloves the entire 4th round while loading up on every shot. An elite fighter would have picked him apart with combinations and put him out.

What fight were you watching? He was setting up the counter left hook the whole fight? And what the hell are you talking about in the 4th round? He was landing at WILL on Khan.

 

Oh I was very impressed. What impressed me the most was his persistence, despite Khan's blinding speed and powerful punches that Garcia had to take early, he still kept coming and never looked phased. When he got cut I thought it was over for him yet he clearly had other plans. What's most impressive to me here is how he handled this fight, he clearly looked like someone prepared to win or die.

 

Everyone knew going into the fight that Garcia's money punch was the hook. But he found a way to land that, pretty early in the fight really, in spite of the fact that everyone and their dog knew that this was what he wanted to do.

So, the fact that this happened is either due to the fact that your hero completely sucks, or because Garcia ain't half bad. There's no in between option. Pick one or the other. Personally, I choose to pick the one that doesn't completely diminish the talent and ability of either fighter.

Tell me, did you think Hasim Rahman was better than Lewis after their first fight?
I don't hate on Garcia, he is a great boxer with all the assets you alluded to and he deserved his victory but he is not a better boxer than Khan. And to suggest it was all some meticulously executed game plan because a few of his punches actually landed is just ridiculous. Garcia corner were shitting themselves while patching up his face. I'm more convinced of Khan's superiority after watching the fight than I was before.

 

Why? Because Khan managed to bust up Garcia a bit with his punches? The corner may have been concerned about the facial damage and sounded more urgent as a result, but they still gave him the right advice by saying that it was time to step up the attack.

And in the third, Garcia did step up the attack. He landed repeatedly to the body, and those flurries that Khan was throwing weren't nearly as effective as they were in the first couple of rounds.

So again...Garcia wasn't loading up and winging hooks with wild abandon. He threw right hands far more than the left in the first two frames, and then he shifted his attack downstairs in the first part of the third. And finally, he brought the hook upstairs with great effect near the end of the round.

And the reason why the hook was able to land on a fighter who was certainly faster and and a more fluid combination puncher is because Garcia was fighting a smarter fight than Khan. Khan didn't keep the fight at long range, didn't try to circle, and didn't really try to defend the body attack. He just stayed at mid range and fired punches that weren't always landing on their intended target.

Khan may be a more talented boxer, but Garcia is the more intelligent fighter of the two by a long time. And until Khan learns to fight smarter, he can't possibly be considered the better of the two, imo.
