This depends entirely on whether Johnson legitimately injured himself early against Vitali - which only he and his doctor and close confidantes actually know for sure.

If we're not giving people the benefit of the doubt where hand injuries sustained during a bout are concerned...well, that's not exactly doing Clottey himself any favors...
