You're right, and I got to admit I picked your post at random after skimming quick thru the thread. I now realize you are putting forth the opinion I share exactly,...and I'm gonna' say "My Bad" bro. should have quoted one of the other posts. I agree with what your saying. Go ahead, tell em'.
Okay I understand where you coming from. This thread has mutated into a 'who has the better career' deal. But even so it still goes to FMJ. Kessler- who has he beaten? Until he proves himself otherwise he's just a good European caliber figher. Why on earth he turned down the Miranda fight is beyond me, that was the perfect platform to get a good win. Hopkins- A good win on paper but it was a close split decision against a guy in his mid forties. Yes Popkins did go on to dominate Pavlik but JC beat BH by outworking him, nothing more. Now please don't tell me beating the ghost of RJJ counts! I won't even bother with that one.
word exactly... "went out" on a higher note.... "went out" being last fights calzaghes last fight was against a washedup old fighter floyds last fight was against a p4p fighter.... self explanitory
Mayweather's "retirement" is more of a vacation. He will be back this year. Calzaghe may come back too, but if I had to lay odds, it's FAR more likely that his retirement is for real.
Mayweather ended his career as P4P #1 Joe ended his career as P4P #2 Mayweather's last fight against Hatton was more significant than Joe's win over Jones Jr. Mayweather ended at a more higher note.
Its close both retired after high profile fights.Id say Mayweather though because he fought a higher level of opponent for longer than Joe,although it wasnt always Joe`s fault some of his challengers left a lot to be desired.
Roy Jones was actually ranked as a Top 5 LH when Calzaghe beat him, but yeah, I see your point. However, Mayweather was in his physical prime when he retired and had not dominated or cleaned out a division like Calzaghe had. Calzaghe was ageing, and had achived everything he could in the game. His timing was perfect. Mayweather's "retirement" seemed like a disapointing waste of talent.
Too close to call. Calzaghe went out fighting a big american name who was previously p4p #1 Mayweather went out fighting a big british name who was still in p4p #10 Everyone wants them both to come back to fight but all in all ill say calzaghe cos he went out and unified a division and stepped up in weight which nowadays is harder to do at the heavier weights than the smaller weights.
Floyd, and it isn't even close. 12 rounds, you must be the worst poster on ESB. Trying to disparage Mayweather's resume and call him a ducker, whilst praising Calzaghe's 10 year reign as champion is rather silly IMO. Floyd is a ducking fraud, yet he faced: Hatton De La Hoya Judah Hernandez Castillo x 2 Corrales Calzaghe faced: Manfredo Jones - shot to **** by then Veit x2 Mitchell Ashira
