If Mayweather finished his career fighting guys way past their prime 40+43 he would be critisised.

floyd is a far far better fighter, Joe is merely a statistic.

I think Calzaghe and i think its Floyds fault for not being held in higher regard. Calzaghe couldve rematched Hopkins or fought Dawson but Dawson wasnt a big enough draw and the Hopkins fight was a snoozefest the first time round, both high risk low reward! Other than them two fights not really much more for Calzaghe to aim for and not suprising he found it hard to get motivated, lets not forget age wouldnt be on his side either (Hopkins style is a lot easier to maintain at a higher age).

Mayweather on the other hand still had big challenges for him, he couldve fought Margarito which wouldve been a huge fight and there were many people wanting the fight, this was also before Margo and Cotto fought so Cotto was another possibility, Mosley is back in the frame now and again a lot of people would love to see that fight, Pacman stepped up and beat Oscar a lot easier than Mayweather did, yet another option. If Mayweather couldnt get motivated for these huge fights then theres something wrong!

So in my opinion Calzaghe retired on a higher note purely because Mayweather couldve stayed fighting and still had challenges there for him that people wanted to see. Nobodys fault but Mayweathers own. It would make it even worse if he comes out of retirement to rematch Hatton with so many better options available!
