I was just thinking that myself, imagine if Duran had retired after Leonard 1.

    Same

If JMM retired now it'd be on a massive highnote.

Lewis and Marciano rank for me, Lewis for the gravity of the win, Marciano for the gravity of the accomplishment. Tunney is right up there.

Rumor has it, Marquez is seriously mulling about retirement. That knockout of Pacquiao would be a historic way to go out.

Lennox Lewis. Whenver you can retire being a champion you did something right.

I'm going with this one. And at middleweight! Almost 20 pounds above McFarland's best weight and coming off nearly a 2 year retirement! :patsch:yikes

Was Klitschko the best fighter in the world when Lewis beat him? :bart

Gene Tunney vs Tom Heeney was a high not to go off on.

Oh yes it was. 'Roberto Duran' would not cuddle up to Ray Leonard and 'Roberto Duran' would not quit against someone like Pat Lawlor.

The records may show Roberto Duran fought on after Barkley, but his 'career' had ended.

Almost definitely this, closely followed by Marcel against El Flaco. How anyone can think that the likes of Monzon-Valdez and Lewis-Klitschko are superior wins is beyond me. Not that they weren't impressive wins in their own right, but with everything taken into account, I don't see how they're in the league of McFarland-Gibbons and Marcel-Arguello. You could maybe semi-plausibly argue that this depends on how highly you rate Gibbons and Arguello (or even Marcel and McFarland for that matter), but again I don't see how anyone who has studied them a bit and isn't horrendously biased would think that Valdez and Klitschko are on the same tier, never mind superior.

Dunno if it's already cropped up, but Loi against Perkins is a great one imo and also better than Monzon-Valdez & Lewis-Klitschko. McLarnin over Canzi & Ambers in his last two fights are both brilliant too.

I like Vic's nomination of Jofre as an honourable inclusion, mainly because his athleticism and power - the latter in particular having long been a crucial weapon in his armoury - were gone, and he was relying by that point almost entirely on fundamentals, craft and nuance.
