We can see it different ways.. Strange the way he comes back after all these threats who were there had beaten the **** outta each other..Now heres lil Pac who is still truly a weight class or two below Floyd and thats who he wants.. Cotto had a very impressive string of wins at that time..Quintana, Judah, Mosley..the stage was set.. Upon his initial welter move, Marg was considered the best welter champion and was the longest reigning champ at the time. Williams just had a big win over Marg, there were some stylistic fights that could have been great, but instead he lets them fight each other... I think he was waiting for the division to clean itself up and beat someone who barely had a leg left after beating the snot out of each other.. I've thought for a while about the Frazier-Ali similarities in buildup as well as stylistically..
Yes it does. Sorry you disagree, but he is the definition of a ducker. Someone who ducks tough fights for easy pay days.
Floyd has faught very good to a couple GREAT fighters. His resume is VERY good. MOst boxers would be lucky to have the kind of career Floyd had. The problem is that Floyd is a GREAT boxer...with GREAT Talent and ability...unfortunately his resume falls short of greatness. So the debate is contraversial about how great Floyd truly is b/c we havent see the kinds of challenges that solidified past greats like Duran, Leonard, Hagler, Hearns, DLH, Mosley, PAC ect..ect.. ect.. based on a two prong approach to concluding that a fighter is great.....based on their talent, skills/ability and who they've faught that were equally as great. Floyd can't say there is NO ONE out there in the sport that are as great overall to offer him such challenges like he says...he just looks for what will make his pockets fatter while dominating like he normally does.
Name the boxers who you think he has ducked then... I'd say Margarito. Possibly Cotto after his win over Hatton, but he probably was already planning on "retiring" after Hatton.
Every top WW he could have fought but didn't. He took easier fights for big money. Good business decision for a ducker.
that is absolutely not the definition of a ducker and he only has had...what 3 WW fights? mitchell in his first fight at WW (safe move testing out the weight), judah, who was very dangerous and considered a top WW at the time, and the lineal WW champ (and check out pbf's history, he is loyal to the WBC..and he fought the WBC WW champ) it's also worth noting that the people he "ducked" happen to all be Arum's fighters
I know! I felt that would be a great fight but Floyd has a major ego. One that feeds off of money and being in the lime light. Takeing a step or two back in terms of money wasn't really an options b/c that would not allow his ego to grow exponentially. The stage was definitly set unfortunately Floyd marches to his own drum and beating Ricky and DLH only made his ego even more unmanageable. When FLoyd came back it was b/c he saw Manny gaining TOO MUCH popularity and fame and I think he wanted to take him down a notch and come back in dramatic fashion by beating the "MAN" who took over his spot. Funny to me is that the stage was set for Floyd to get EVERYTHING he wanted in a fight. From what he's stated in the past...PAC would be his biggest and EASIEST win. The money would have been his largest purse ever which is why I thought the fight would be made with a little obstacle over the split....much to my surprise that Floyd threw a ****** werch into the mix with his allegations and demands for olympic style testing which contradicted everyting I knew or thought I knew about Floyd. PAC offered a low risk high reward fight...not only that a RESPECT or legacy building fight that floyd has been demanding.
Then he is not the best fighter who ever lived like he claims to be. He's not even the top fighter of his era. He's another creation of HBO who is only in it for the money.
Up until 147lbs, id say his resume is very good. Obviously his resume at Welter could be a lot better, but someone who looks for big money bouts after claiming his 5th world title in different weight classes is a ducker? I'd class a ducker as someone who avoids a fight because he is either scared or doesn't fancy his chances...
None! Aside from Baldo, who IMHO wasn't really a top WW. He had a great win against Judah and so did Floyd. Carlos was the Lineal Champ but I can't really say he presented FLoyd with much of a challenge anyway you look at it aside from being bigger. Ducking is compeltely looking for a way NOT to fight someone. Floyd didn't look for reasons NOT to fight any of the Welter weights that contradicted his stance on why he fights and who he fights for...It's always been the same story for Floyd....He fights for himself, his family and for the money! Most of boxing DOES NOT offer the kind of Money that Floyd seeks....there are not many DLH's or Ricky Hattons or Now....PACs.
