    It did take a long time to get the respect he deserves. He got ripped for losing to Spinks and by a few for not showing up at his best for Tyson even!
    His comeback helped, beating Mercer then going the distance with Holyfield helped. And coming so close to beating Mccall proved how great imo he'd been. Now he gets some respect, from most that is, and so he should tbh.

    I rank him only behind Ali and Louis. He was completely dominant for over five years...can't say that about Lewis, Holyfield, Foreman, Liston. And though I count Wlad as top 10 ATG, I don't think the competition was even quite the level of Holmes' during his impressive reign.

    I have Lewis above Holmes but it's literally just above him. I'd find it hard tbh in a H2 H between em both at there best to choose a winner. I'm a big fan of em both.

    There's no comparison between the state Ali was in, prior to his bout with Holmes, and the condition of Tyson against Lewis.

    A few of the 'names' on Holmes' ledger were quite green, at the time he fought them. Witherspoon, Smith, Williams, Mercer. It could even be argued that Cooney was nowhere near ready for Holmes, having been fed low-level or next-to-shot fighters, leading up to their match.

    I have Holmes at #3 as well. He was able to pick and choose his opponent at times but he fought some good opposition overall.

    Lennox Lewis struggled with more than a few of his opponents. Certainly more than Holmes and even Tyson in their careers.

    And Cooney was offered the Weaver fight, I believe? Instead he chose Holmes. I think Cooney was as ready for Holmes as he'd ever be.

    Being green doesn't preclude the potential to become a world champion. In fact, Mercer was a title holder, prior to meeting Holmes.

    What are you talking about? Vitali is a first-ballot hall of fame enshrine, and the one with the most votes in is class. That is respect.

    Wlad gets a ton of respect. To quote Joshua, when he had a very hard time beating a 41-year-old Wlad, if I can have the career he had, that would be amazing.

    Both are class guys out of the ring and good ambassadors to boxing, so no they aren't done getting respect.

    Sure - because his ledger up until that point, including less than 6 rounds of pro boxing against shot opponents, in the two years prior to meeting Holmes, illustrates the perfect preparation for facing an ATG Heavyweight.
