i dont actually think hes really that great of a pure boxer calzaghe i think because of the level of opposition, hes gotten away with overwhelming them with workrate and his style is based purely on workrate and stamina
case study manfredo fight- the flurry which got the fight stopped none were landing calzaghe was just punching arms but if manfredo was anything or had any composure he'd have tied calzaghe up or countered him

I don't take away any credit from that match, he dominated a brutal power puncher, it was a complete shutout. I just never believed all the hype about lacy being the next Mike Tyson. It was a dangerous fight for Calzaghe. I give hin almost as much credit as I give delahoya for beating Mayorga.

I don't like him personally, but he has excellent skills and assets. He's a special fighter, one of the best of his era. I don't think much of his resume, though. The only great fighters he beat were far past their best when he beat them, the best prime fighter he beat was Kessler.

So you agree that Calzaghe shouldn't get a third of the credit that some of his delirious fans are giving him for this victory.

He beat Sheika coming off a win over Glen. Glen was not great at SMW and didnt deserve a shot at Joe. Only in hindsight does joe fighting Glen make any sense. Taylor and Wright would get owned by Joe at any point in his or their careers. Utterly owned. Tarver got owned by Hopkins, the same old Hpokins that Joe beat. Perhaps you should just have another think about it.

    Eubank garbage?

    Woodhall garbage?

    Reid garbage?

    Sheika garbage?

    Brewer garbage?

    Mitchell garbage?

    Lacy garbage?

    Kessler Garbage?

    Hopkins garbage?

    No. They were world class.

Hopkins is old and tarver was weight drained he looked horrible, kessler, undefeated but unproven, lacy a stiff powerpuncher. The others are just, not worth mentioning. Who did all those other fighters beat? Joe owning Winky???? LMAO!!!!!!!!!

How about Eubank - ever heard of him?

I'll do it for you. He was weight drained, and took the fight at short notice. He was also old.

Calzaghe deserves all the credit that's coming to him. I don't think there is a better quantitative measuring stick in boxing than longevity and consistency. Larry Holmes and Joe Louis proved that much.

I'm affraid you just showed your lack of knowledge about boxing. Other than Sheika (a guy who beat someone you said joe should have faced) those guys were wrold champions - some of them more than once. I could name teh excellent fighters they beat but you wouldnt have heard of them would you?

Kessler unproven? A unified champ is now unproven is he? **** off.

Yeah, but I was playing the discrediting game for my friend here

If Eubank was so old and shot as people claim, he wouldn't have narrowly lost at CRUISER against Carl Thompson (who handed Haye his only loss lest we forget). Right after the Calzaghe fight.

Look Calzaghe deserves a lot of credit for all he has accomplished, and it seems to me that some people who always look to downplay or try and discredit someone like him have probably had a lot of personal dissapointments in life and are now just plain old haters...............But its also true that not everyone can like everyone otherwise the world would be happy and god forbid that happens, then what would some people have to talk about.
