They dont. And Pac and DLH didn't. Pac went up 12 DLH went down 7. Still crazy to think DLH weighed 147 in that ring when he fought Pac. He was lighter than Pac and we all know DLH had serious weight issues when he was at 130/135. He hadn't weighed 147 in the ring since I would guess 130lb days
it's easier but really what happens next in the ring is not when you are about to fight a much bigger guy who has roughly the same talent/skill as yours. it was really that easy for delahoya against bhop or trinidad against jones? http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=3238297
Thats one fight of those two moving up. We watched Jones do it successfully many times. We watched Trinidad move up successfully. We watched DLH move up, Pac, Floyd, many other fighters. Going down in weight, is a lot more difficult, and I know there are some that did it, but it's no where close to the amount of fighters who move up.
Yes, but some fanboys want to give it a new definition in order to add more to Pac's total. It's pretty stupid.
I see what your trying to say, but again its easier, and what i mean by that is, your not weakening yourself moving up as your are comming down...
LOL - stop. Nobody cares for those. It does not support the current agenda... uhm I mean argument. Comeback next week when we discuss it in the Bhop Non-midget-stomping career thread. Then we say ODLH was fine then - peak, prime, beast, ATG, GOAT, Latin hearthrob, G, etc, etc.
Oscar has never and will never be G, that is all [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDGbGDNKC3s"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDGbGDNKC3s[/ame]
normally it's easier since a fighter naturally tends to overgrow a division. but if we let a fighter who is maxed-out or settled on his division (chavez-whitaker or oscar-bhop), then what you get is a dangerous situation for the smaller fighter who comes up during fight night. as the article that i posted said, both fighters takes risk at a catchweight fight.
People act like Pacquiao's opponents had 5 hours notice about the weight. This was agreed upon for 6 months + ODLH, Cotto, Margarito had plenty of time to train, prepare and were paid millions and could have hired coaches to help with the weight if needed. The only disadvantaged was Pacquiao as nobody knew how he would handle the weight which is why he was not even favored vs ODLH.
Not exatcly about catchweight. It is when a fight happens at the UPPER LIMIT that is not the standard. Like fighting at 145 for WW instead of 147. 145 is welter weight since by definition WW is anything above 140 and below 147.1. Catchweight just means the upper limit is different. Regarding Oscar never being a G. Of course! But you know how things goes here in ESB. People are consistent only with their agendas never their arguments.
There has never been a rule saying you must weigh at the upper limit. That's **** fans have added by themselves. If you weigh 140.5, you are a WW.
