??? My guess is that it harkens back to a time when titles were won on stoppage, and if not it was called a no contest. If not, then this guy is a moron and I hate him b/c now I have to hear people spit this out daily like it's an actual boxing rule.
I'm pretty sure it was made up when the Queensberry rules were invented, in order to justify the champion keeping his titles if the fight was declared a draw.
I first heard it during Ali years, when he kept getting decisions over Norton and others. I think it was round before that though.
