Which fighter, in the modern 15 round limit era, went the 15 round distance the most, win lose or draw?
Emile Griffith has the record for competing in the most title fight rounds. I just skimmed through his record and counted at least 18 times that he went the 15-round distance.
With a single lung, Nel Tarlton won over 30 15 round decisions, posting a couple more 15th round stoppages for good measure. He dropped around a dozen more decision losses over the same distance, and drew over 15 rounds a half dozen more times. (He was never defeated by stoppage in 146 outings.)
Not bad going eh, I just mentioned Nella on another thread. Going back there must be loads of fighters that fought loads of 15 rounders. Just reading a book on Jack kid Bergs life and there would be sometimes 4 15 rounders on the same bill. These weren't even title fights but a lot of them were over 2 min rounds.
4 15 rounders thats crazy stuff must a been a great bill though it would start at say 7 and finish at around midnight haha
Archie Moore or Willie Pep..... ?? Dundee??????? Les Darcy had a dozen 20 round bouts.... 15 times he went 15 or more rounds..
Surprisingly, no. Rosenbloom only went the 15 round distance around a dozen times. Like Greb and Loughran, most of his bouts were scheduled for ten or 12 rounds. Check out Harry Mason's record on boxwreck. (I don't have my old record books handy at the moment.) I counted 62 15 round decision wins, one 15th round stoppage win, 17 time limit defeats over that distance, and six 15 round draws. Additionally, Mason's record over the 20 round distance is reported as being 9-3-2. Look for more records of UK boxers from the 1920s and 1930s with a high number of bouts and a low knockout percentage. The answer to who fought most over the 15 round distance is likely to be found among their ranks.
