Who fought tougher opposition Roy Jones jr or Floyd mayweather

I sure hope SMW/LHW RJJ could KO a few WW within 5 rounds:nut

 

I would say a convincing win over a young Hopkins is on par with anything Floyd has done. The win over James Toney is better then anything Floyd has done. The win over Ruiz was a physical challenge harder then anything Floyd will ever do. Dropping back down right after that victory at HW and regaining the LHW title was beyond incredible when you take everything into consideration.

 

thought he lost to tarver the first go around . . . the question is tougher not better. It is clear that Toney and Bhop were best wins that either fighter has (especially Toney who was rank far higher than Bhop was when they fought). However, I still have to say Floyd because his opposition were TOUGHER for him because he was constantly the smaller man and after the big two I say PBF opp is better.

 

Floyd has much better consistency of opposition than Roy had. Roy's peak opponents are on par with Floyd's, Toney maybe being better than anyone Floyd beat and young B Hop being on par with Corrales.

 

Roy was at as much of a weight disadvantage at LHW as Floyd is at WW. Jones Jr also had to pack on 25lbs of muscle to get in the ring with a HW and was still outweighed by 20 plus pounds. He then proceeded to lose that weight at an advanced age and in a quick amount of time to beat Antonio Tarver. That doesn't happen. Just because you thought Tarver won doesn't make it so. Most people think Jones won and gives him a ton of credit. In todays game where people are crying over a couple pounds and fighters being to big for other fighters in the same weight class, it makes what Jones Jr did all the more special.

 

It's funny to think that Joe Calzaghe is the best fighter fought by either guy. (I wasn't counting that in my other post because I was only looking at wins and good performances.)

 

Im going with Floyd on this one. Mayweather does not have a win as good as Toney, but overall he has more good wins.

*I don't really rate that Hopkins win than highly either I would argue that Hopkins was green and would not hit his prime until the G.Johnson fight.

 

I do find it funny to see statements like this. Because Floyd was calling out Shane and Oscar for years prior to the fights actually happening and yet many people act as though its Floyd's fault they weren't prime when he finally fought them.

And I agree that Roy has the greater single wins. James Toney is really the only one IMO though. Plus I don't think JT was at his best as he didn't look to be in his best shape but then that isn't Roy's fault. Floyd as better overall depth.

 

Roy has the 2 Best fighters on his resume, Floyds is deeper by far.

 

Hopkins went 12 years without defeat after RJJ! Plus, Roy went up to HW, that would be a bit like Mayweather facing Ward

Hopkins - Fought with a fractured wrist.
Reggie Johnson - easily beat him to unify.
Virgil Hill - Devastating 4th round KO by a body shot.
Gonzalez - Toyed with him
Tate - Beautiful knockout in under two rounds.

 

People seem to be forgetting a lot of the fighters Jones Jr actually faced. I know it's common to pick his resume apart but don't let the fact that Jone's beat so many fighters so easily cloud the fact that he fought some tough fighters.

 

Mayweather has climbed up in weight just as much as Roy too, if not more, depending on perspective.

This statement seems very familiar. It seems like Roy is suffering the same problem that Floyd does.
