Yeah, again, most fighters have losses and real lows in their careers that their mortality was measured against to assess their place in boxing history, but Monzon just had a few sub par performances, mostly in one year, 1973, and even these he still won.

Don't forget Clancy's part, he's widely printed saying Griffith won and was ripped off etc.

Monzon was unique and very rare as an alltime great, and is slowly being appreciated of late. He was not a very good person, but thank God for boxing, because if not for this sport, Monzon would have killed someone and would have spent his life in prison, instead of just his last few years.

Clancy, though it was understandable due to his fierce loyalty to his fighters, was just basicallly a sore loser, who deep down, knew better IMO.

Good read. I think a fight between him and Roy Jones would be determined somewhere past the 12th round. And given Monzon's proven stamina and finding a way to win, you gotta favor the Argentine here.

I myself would favour monzon over 15 against jones as the pressure would be overwhelming for roy,i just would find it interesting as hardly anybody seemed to be able to dictate the pace to monzon but i think roys speed over the early part might have carlos in a spot of bother.
Other than this i see no middle beating monzon,he has the answer to all the other styles that greats like hagler, hopkins and robinson present.
On another note, how does carlos go against joe calzaghe,a quite similiar fighter in some ways? At least at 168 carlos doesnt have to
struggle to make weight as much.

    Hard to argue with that.

I don't know, I think that Monzon was made for the middleweight division. It's possible that he would have fared well in a superheavy class, but the middleweight class was just a natural for him. Guys like Monzon and Hagler had the sense to stay in their best division.

I meant, of course, the superMIDDLEweight division. Sorry 'bout that.

Valdez was the toughest and Briscoe provided some rough moments. As far as Griffith, Monzon won the first fight pretty comfortably and Carlos was the kind of fighter who put out enough to win...I don't think Griffith made him uncomfortable even though it was a closer fight on paper but IMO Monzon was always in charge

You're just a disgusting little "journeyman" after all. What did they leave the gate open from the general forum?
What fighters are you big on and passionate about? The same thing could be said about you, little man.
