The thread indirectly compares their quality of opposition even taking into account the surrounding drama or events leading to the fight.

The only way I am going to vote for jmm is because of the physical nature of jmm. Meaning that because I believe jmm is past his prime therefore he has to hurdle a bigger challenge.

But had jmm been a prime fighter, katsidis would not even in the equation of the scheme of things. Simply he does not have anything that would even give me a hint that he would upset jmm.

katsidis was a fighter at the top of his game, he wasnt out for 12 months and then had one shitty comeback fight where he looked poor!!... margarito did!!! Also, marquez had to climb off the canvas to win!!! :deal

let's say they swithced opponents and marquez had beaten margarito and pacquiao has beaten katsidis? do you think pac will get more credit in beating katsidis than margo? will jmm get more credit in beating margo than katsidis?

marquez is nowhere near as fast or as fit as pacquiao so it would take something special for him to beat margarito. pacquiao picked margarito because his style suits him. margaritos style does not suit marquez, plus marquez has never fought more than one fight above 135... so yes if it was JMM v AM and Pac v Kat, marquez would get the nod for best win!!! :deal

Pac over Margarito, easily for me.

Both were expected to win, but not only do I rank Margarito a higher calibre opponent then I do Kat, he outweighed Pac by 20lbs on fight night, and Pac completely carved him up, even going toe to toe in many instances.

Marquez got dropped and hurt HARD against Kat, but otherwise the fight went pretty much as expected, and even him getting hurt was pretty much to script.... as we all knew Kat had that punchers chance and would probably hurt JMM at some point.

So, seeing as how I think both put on a fairly equal display of dominance (yes, JMM got dropped hard, but besides that 30 seconds, he pretty much did what he wanted in there, without too much trouble.... while Pac didnt get dropped, but also had to fight a lot harder to maintain his total control)

So with dominance being about equal, I give the larger credit to pac for the size difference he was dealing with, and with on top of that, Margarito being the opponent, period.

I guess I simply dont rate Kat as highly of an opponent as some here do, which is weird considering I am an actual fan of his and my was sad for him this weekend, I was hoping beyond hope he could produce a miracle and stop JMM, and when he hurt him I was out of my seat, screaming. But I think Margarito is a better opponent, even now, and then when you factor in the size difference.... there is no question, for me personally.

Hmmm.. let's see. Pacquiao beats a 3 time world champion in Margarito, who outweighs him by 17 pounds, for his historic 8th weight title. Probably hundreds of posts buried in ESB how the matchup would be a joke and how Pac would be murdered in that fight just a few years back.

Marquez beat Katsidis, a good fighter with no big name wins on his resume, gets knocked down, loses 2 rounds compared to Pac who has lost 1 round in his last 6 fights (Round 1 to Cotto), and maybe earns a ticket to fight Pacquiao a 3rd time.

    :think

Good observation, JMM is indeed having troubles at the weight considering his age. What im curious is, how is it that people don't criticize JMM as having to pick his opponents just like FLOYD and Pac are accused of doing? I dont see anything special about the Katsidis win that would elevate his status above Pacs'.

What do you think would have happened to Kats had that been Pac in the ring with him? :patsch

Both fights are impressive, Pac dominating a fighter 17 lbs heavier, and Marquez overcoming a KD to win the fight (just like what he did against pac, overcoming KD's to give a good war but come short for a win).
For me both fight are equally impressive if being viewed separately and not comparing directly,
And I want to see PacvsJMM at 140
