    Or in other words...

Fury earned his stripes against an old and declined great and an overhyped champion who didn't truly prove he was really top level... And monkeyed around with pointless fights in and around, whilst not really making many good ones.

Usyk, on the other hand, beat the clear two best of the rest - twice each and undeniably. And after his first two bouts at the weight hasn't fought a single fight against a non-contender, yet... That's six legit contender fights in a row, almost unheard of.

Sure, Usyk could fight the best of the rest, but there's question marks around just how good they are and, as yet, they're a good step down and far from necessary for his legacy... Whilst this fight is particularly bad, it's a departure from the norm.

    I don't think so...

If he was just a grifter at all, what's the point in fighting the best available first?

As usual you have completely missed the point and also attempted to divert from the topic because it doesn't suit your warped narrative.

If this farce had to happen, it should have been a non-title fight. But Usyk PUSHED for it to be a defence of his WBC title.

This is a new low of Usyk's own making.

These Lineal claims can be questionable, and it was fury who kept going on about and brought importance to Brits as at a point it was his only claim, but usyk is clearly the man.

Usyk earned a one-time easy payday. At least him and Joshua are going to win their fights comfortably, though the only thing I fear is Usyk not wanting to end the fight.

My issue with that is you can't really claim Fury was "one of the best available" if he was simultaneously not fighting decent opponents. Downgrading his previous achievements has a knock-on effect on Usyk, as Wlad (even on the older side) is still both AJ and Fury's best wins.

Usyk needs more wins against fighters in the top ten to cement his legacy. 5 fighters in the division is never going to cut it and the question mark will always be above his head if he's off chasing non-boxers instead of defending his titles against legitimate opponents.

Ah yes, because he wasn't paid enough before this point?

Ngannou was a more credible opponent. We had at least heard of him and knew he was an ass-kicker. I never heard of Rico until last week.

Joshua's best win is a lesser version of this, my dear wall of text bot account.

It was good that it wasn't. It shouldn't be at stake against someone who has done nothing to deserve a shot at it.

I was going to give Usyk more of a pass, but now that you bring up this point I may actually change my mind. It's a ****ing disgrace that Verhoeven is being given the chance to become lineal champion in a sport he's never competed in before.

I really, really rate Usyk. But he shat the bed on this one.

Fury having a non-title fight against Ngannou would actually have been alright for me if he had made the defences he should that year. But he ran from Usyk and made no defences.

If Usyk faces Kabayel later in the year, he will at least have made one good defence and salvaged something. But to defend against a kick boxer 10 months after his last defence is not a good look. Had he had this a non-title fight a few months back and planned for a proper defence in the summer, it would have been completely different.

Y'all pretending this is something new. Don't you remember when Al the Reaper Roper fought Irish Terry Conklin, who had beaten him as a amateur, but had never had a single pro fight?

It's wild this has to be said, but it seems a lot of you are missing the forest for the trees here. Fury's decision to fight Chisora for a 3rd time and then Ngannou is in no way comparable to Usyk fighting Verhoeven. Like, they're completely different. There's a reason Fury caught no end of **** for what he was doing.

Fury was the mega A-side. He had just had a wildly popular trilogy with the last American HW anyone considered something worth a damn (even though he was wildly oversold). He was Frank Warren's (the biggest promoter in the sport) prized pony. Whatever Fury wanted to happen was going to happen. He was going to get paid whatever he wanted to get paid. Turki, the big money man in the sport, had his head jammed directly up Fury's ass. He got big money to fight Whyte as a mandatory. Then he got a sold out show at Spurs to fight Delboy for a 3rd time. Then he got $50 million to fight a complete novice boxer. All while Usyk was waiting around. It was TWO FREAKING YEARS of Usyk calling Fury out and Fury ducking him. A fight which would give us the first Undisputed champion in 25 goddamn years.

At no point was there ever going to be any roadblocks to Fury fighting anyone he wanted to besides Fury himself. He was the guy. He was the one everyone was glazing as the best fighter potentially of all-time at HW. And he spoke repeatedly on camera about how Usyk wasn't ****, how the belts belonged in the West, how nobody cared about a foreigner who didn't speak English, and generally just made up every excuse in the book.

How is that in any way comparable to Usyk fighting the 2nd best guy in the division after him last July and now taking a voluntary? When the only guys waiting are dudes who have never earned a title before, haven't proven diddly squat, and who haven't been waiting for long whatsoever? Also there are major promotional roadblocks to getting any fight made because Warren and Turki are slap fighting over control of the sport.

Ya'll want Usyk to give Turki (the guy who made Undisputed happen for him and actually paid him what he was worth) the finger, go make a fight with Frank where Frank has every incentive to screw Usyk over and will control every aspect of the fight, and also make piddly money compared to what he could make with Turki. Funny how this righteous do-the-right-thing never comes up in any other sport. No one suggests that the best football player in the world take a paycut so there's more money for other players on his team. Oh, this really great player shouldn't take the mega money to play for Real Madrid and instead should help Derbyshire get promoted. Get the F out of here.

For as great as Usyk is in the ring, he doesn't have the same pull in the sport. Making a fight with Kabayel or Wardley puts him in a seriously compromised position. It'll be yet another fight in the enemy's backyard. A fight where Frank is the guy paying everyone so the ref, judges, and everything else will be under his control. You think Frank wouldn't like to get all the titles back under his control? Something which would definitely help him keep Fury and his other fighters from going and signing with Zuffa? Remember, Usyk has already had a lot of shady **** done against him since he's moved to HW. Two split decisions which obviously weren't. Dubois low blowing him repeatedly and then Frank pushing a narrative that Usyk was a liar and a cheat. Fury messing him around for two years and then getting their fight postponed repeatedly. But hey, Usyk should just take it up the ass again because DURR THA BELTS!! HURR MANDATORIES!! All when the WBC has already said Kabayel is next or Usyk has to drop the belt so Kabayel can be elevated to champ. Cry me a river.
