Who gets more respect? Mayweather on fighting Marquez or Pac on fighting Cotto?

If Pac dominates Hatton, it isn't the same. Pac will have proven himself against the best 140 pounder in the world. Whereas JMM has shown liabilities in moving upto 135 pounds (gets hit a lot more, buzzed by light punching Diaz).

If Pac lost to Hatton and Cotto fought him, yeah, that would be ridiculous, but lets not go jumping the gun here, wait till this fight plays out.

How would Pac beating Hatton at 140? Justify Cotto fighting him?

You can try and turn this on me but you are the one actually trying to compare the man at 140 (assuming he wins) fighting one of the top 147 pounders to a guy who is obviously above his natural weight at LW fighting arguably the best 147 pounder(depending on his condition, the one reason why i don't really have a problem with the JMM fight). A guy with a win at 147 and a win over the best fighter in the world at 140, fighting a top 147 pounder, that isn't hard to envision.

If Pac beats Hatton in dominant fashion he proves he is too good at 140 pounds for more or less anyone. If Cotto fought Pac before the Hatton fight, that would be totally ridiculous, as we don't know how much he really proved in the DLH fight. But if he beats Hatton (a guy who would give Cotto a decent fight) than it isn't all that unreasonable.

The fact is if Pac loses to Hatton the fight won't happen. So the context of the discussion assumes a Pac win. In which case he has proven to be the man at 140 pounds, so what would be wrong with a fight between him and a top fighter in the division above (Mayweather - Hatton double standard?).

Im making something to eat so Im going to say this.

Mayweather is not a natural 147lber and could be fighting at a lower weight.

147 is his 4th weight class.

    147 would be Marquez 5th (skipping 140)

You act like Mayweather is similar size to Cotto when he's not.

Mayweather is a small WW. Fighting bigger guys.

Pacquaio beating hatton does not justify Cotto fighting him if we use the same standards for Floyd.

Its obviously not the best fight ever made, but if Pac beat Hatton (who would likely maul Marquez), it would certainly be incomparably better than the Marquez - Mayweather match up, thats all i am saying. You simply could not compare the two. You can't use the same standards, because there are huge differences. As i said, you would be talking about the best 140 pounder in the world fighting a top 147 pounder vs the best 147 pounder in the world fighting an average sized LW who showed a couple of bad signs in his jump to 135.

I am not saying this match up is as respectable as a Cotto - Mosley fight, but if you actually think there is no difference between the two scenarios than i don't know what to say, you simply have no understanding at all.

Big difference, Cotto is bigger and can punch and poses a threat. JMM is handpicked by Floyd to be an easy fight.
