i have no idea how painfull a broken jaw is, i know how painfull a broken tailbone is and i kept riding that day. its a fact that the human body can ignore huge amounts of pain if it needs to, and the shock/ pain overlaod basically can stop you feeling any pain at all.
And once again I challenge you to state on this board ( so as everyone can note your level of idiocy ) that Ali, his handlers, Cosell, and everyone involved in that post fight ring interview are either liars, or idiots, or both because YOU, and you ALONE know that his jaw was broken in the 12th. Despite ALL of them claiming it was in the 1st. You're like one of those goons who tore the wings off insects as a kid, convinced yourself you were right, whilst everyone told you that it was wrong to do so, and have carried it on into adulthood.
Just watched the rest period after round 11. Ali is exhausted breathing heavy, talking with his handlers. No one is going near his jaw. No sign whatsoever his jaw is in any distress. Ali opens and closes his mouth without any visible effort to let his handlers remove or put back in his mouthpiece. He has a broken jaw for the last 9 or 10 rounds and no one in his corner is applying ice going into the last round? Please explain that to everyone. The only point in the fight where Ali shows the effect of a broken jaw is round 12....the round Norton always felt he broke Alis jaw. You have no evidence to support your claim. Show something before the debate is stopped due to your stalling!
Cosell did not claim anything idiot. He just reported what he was told. Furthermore, and if you knew boxing as you say you do (you don't) you would know that after this bout there was lots of controversy as to when Alis jaw was broken. Ali stated very early. Norton stated very late. Most did not believe Ali since fighting for an entire bout with a broken jaw with a hwt hitting it was impossible. So you acting as if my points are new news shows you don't have a clue. This is all very old news....a controversy that began right after the bout in 73.....40 years ago. Again watch the video. No sign of a broken jaw until round 12.
Sonny Banks decked him with a left hook, as did Henry Cooper and Joe Frazier. Doug Jones had him in trouble and holding on from a right hand, and Shavers staggered him multiple times with rights, but he was never actually legitimately floored by one as a professional. [There's also amateur footage of him getting bounced down by a left hook from Alan Hudson, but he gets up apparently unhurt, and finishes Hudson off in short order.]
:rofl Pepe you're priceless you really are. So I must have been having a coversation with myself earlier in the thread. Now i'm getting on in years but I haven't quite reached that stage yet! So how has poor Stevie G been roped into this? Oh yes he's got something in common with Houdini and myself we sometimes don't agree with some of the garbage you post, which you seem to object to. You are though the expert on multiple user names what was it? Il Duce,Senor Pepe now Frankenfrank? All with one common theme,a pathological hatred of Ali. Nothing wrong with favouring other great fighters over him but you seem to rate virtually every vague contender over him of the last 40 years! I've just got visions of you sitting on your keyboard 24/7 in your 1 bedroom apartment surrounded by newspaper cut outs of Ali plastered on the walls. Very worrying.
You can't educate pork. This imbecile Houdini, doesn't even know his hero was dropped 3 times by left hooks, and idiotically claims one of his KD's was from a right hand. Further, as well as being ******ed, and senile, the fool must be deaf and blind. He claims Norton always said he broke Ali's jaw in the 12th, but MINUTES after the fight Norton clearly stated he DIDN'T KNOW Ali had a broken jaw. He claims Ali's jaw swelled immediately after a ( phantom ) punch that he saw. Ali can clearly be seen in the corner awaiting the verdict, combing his hair mumbling to Pacheco with NO swollen jaw. The fool also said Cosell merely quoted what he was told, the moron. Again Cosell says " Ali. Ali, come over here " He then informs the viewing audience Ali can't talk, when he was only inches away from him. I'm no fan of Howard Cosell, but I'd back his intelligence, integrity, and knowledge against this moron Houdini. So come on Houdini, son. Man up and tell us, are you a liar, a fantasist, an idiot, or all of them?
Cosell saying Ali can't talk at fights end means what? You stated Cosell said Ali had a broken jaw. The only way he would have known that is if he was told that by Alis camp. Note below that Pacheko during the 12th round told Cosell that Ali had a broken tooth. Are you saying you know boxing but don't know there was significant controversy as to when Alis jaw was broken? Here is Norton in 1975..... In the interview with BI he maintained it was the 12th and final round in which he broke Ali's jaw, not the second as Ali claimed. "In the last round I hit him with a right hand and he became very defensive," Norton said. "The break in the jaw was an inch and a half long and he was being hit throughout the fight. If you are in that much pain, the mind would shut off. I think the pain would get you." Ken Norton from his own book page 65-66 I eventually pinned Ali against the ropes and laced some ferocious shots Including the punch I believe broke his jaw. Why do I think I broke his jaw in round 12 and not the 2nd? For the plain and simple reason that if I had broken his jaw in the second round Ali would not have been able to take The constant shots to the chin I was putting on him. Many doctors have told me that a broken jaw is so painful that your mind Takes over and you pass out from the pain. In addition Ali fought much more tentative in round 12 which he did not rounds 1 through 11. Not to put Ali down but I think the idea that Alis jaw was broken in round two was a Rumor started by the people in Alis camp. It's interesting to note that Pecheco was telling the tv crew Ali was fine during the fight. He yelled over to Cosell that Ali had a broken tooth In the 12th round. The break was clean with a quarter inch separation. How could any man take 10 rounds of punches to the chin without passing out from the pain? Eddie Futch said....."with the shots Ali took Ali jaw would have been shattered By the time Ali got the 12 round decision. In my opinion Alis jaw was broken in round 11 by a right hand Ken caught him with while he had Ali along the ropes. I've watched the tape and all fight Alis expression never changed after being hit until that punch. Angelo is a smart man. He wanted everyone to think Ali was warrior going 10 rounds with a broken jaw. His jaw was broken with that right hand in round 11. I've watched the tape many times and that's when it happened." You better get another sport to watch. You don't know anything about boxing history. No one bought Alis contention that his jaw was broken in round 2. That is except only his most adoring fans. Again...you don't know that there was huge controversy about when Alis jaw was broken right after their bout in 73? Obviously you don't know and that speaks loudly of you boxing knowledge which is close to nil.
Chicago Tribune July 21 1973 "Alis ankle was sore, his jaw was broken, His fist was sore, he did not adhere to his religion. He has lots of excuses but he has never said he lost because I beat him. At first he said I broke his jaw in round one then round two. This was proven impossible because I was pounding him on that jaw every round. I actually broke his jaw in the last round. I hit him with a right hand and he immediately became defensive. What kind of excuse is that anyway? I broke his jaw he did not do it running into a telephone pole".
In more recent times,Muhammad Ali himself admitted the blow that broke his jaw did n't connect until the latter stages of the fight.
Yes,Ali was combing his hair but take a look at the footage. There was definitely something up with his jaw.
There is no doubt alis jaw was broken and broken badly. The question is when did thefracture occur. At the time noone but the most crazy Ali fan believed it occurred early in the bout. Noone went near his jaw until after the bout was over. So no ice packs....nothing. could any man take solid blows to the chin with a complete break of the jaw bone? Not just one but 10 rounds worth? There were all questions asked 40 years ago and as I mentioned noone believed Alis camp. Very very old news.
Whitaker did it. Confirmed he did it for 10 rounds, I believe. These guys have a high threshold for pain, inhuman will, and have put off most of the pain due to adrenaline... Sit down, son.
And just to be clear, I don't care if Ali's jaw was broke in round 2 or 12. I think if it was broke in 2, he would have clenched his jaw and fought on, like he said he did in Champions Forever- that's the type of guy Ali was- a winner.
