Louis, because he was very accurate could exploit Ali's weakness of leaning back to avoid punches. Terrell caught Ali much more than is generally believed. As someone said in another post, Ali thumbed Terrell repeatedly in this fight and only took control when Terrell's eyes were in a bad state. I don't buy the idea that Ali carried Terrell to punish him; I don't think Ali had the power to stop Terrell. This brings me to Marciano. Ali's lack of power and Marciano's toughness and stamina make it an interesting fight. The only way he stops Marciano is on cuts, which is possible. I put Walcott in because Ali didn't like to be the aggressor and he'd have to be in this fight. I see this fight as a cagey, close fight and not a walk over for Ali.
Big Bill Tate and Ed Bearcat Wright would have given him fits, and Ali most likely would have ducked Tiger Jack Payne
This is absolute bull****. Terrell claimed he was thumbed once in the second but the film does not show it ,nor his reaction to a thumb , he was cut in the 2nd the round he claimed Ali rubbed his eye along the top rope ,again film does not support this claim .Terrell won the 4th that was it.The scores were 137-148,137-148, 133-148.It was a one sided beat down. Terrell just fought to survive ,it's very hard to finish a man who is not trying to do anything but last.
Yeah Tillis who was out boxed by Coetzee Biggs Weaver Bugner Frazier Stopped by Thomas Page Witherspoon Is going to give Ali problems
Not impressed by your reasons. What can you tell me about the footwork of both Louis and Ali and how would it pertain to their match? How would the match look? Who would lead and who would counterpunch? Ali not having the power to stop Terrell is a ***** opinion -- power is not nearly the only factor when it comes to stopping someone. Ron Lyle nearly won out in a crushing shootout with George Foreman, absorbing hellacious punishment, while Ali hurt him with one right hand, recognized the trouble he was in, and patiently finished him off. His accuracy, handspeed and awareness in the ring has led him to stopping many iron-chinned fighters such as Bonavena, who heard the final bell against a lot of powerful fighters. As for Walcott -- why would Ali need to lead with anything serious? He could peck at him from range, and counter when Walcott opens up. Zora Folley had little succes trying this. I'll await your answer on Joe Louis before I mention Marciano.
Two days before the fight Ali publicly stated ,"I'm going to torture Terrell". I think Ali let Zora go a few rounds before opening right up.
Wlad Vitali Valuev Simply because Ali can't deal with big guys. They'd all coast to a UD victory. Lewis Haye Tyson Would have too much power for Ali and would bang him out.
Joe Louis, Joe Louis, Joe Louis, and let me add Joe Louis... The Joe Louis of his best Max Baer era, kos any version of Ali, who truly was as much hype, as overpowering skill...People forget today the panther like movements of this Joe Louis, combined with unparalleled lethal combinations on his target that no man ever could absorb and survive for long...Clay/Ali never met this type of hitter ever. Old man Liston, George Foreman ,hit hard with one punch but a young Louis hurt you with blazing combinations with great leverage, speed and accuracy that was lethal. Yes Louis could be outsped as Bob Pastor showed but he eventually caught up with Pastor and kod him. Also I am CONVINCED that great as Billy Conn was in 1941, the Joe Louis, vintage Baer fight would have flattened Billy earlier...In boxing it is who crosses the finish line first, and young Joe Louis always did that... And as Louis said "he can run but he can't hide "....
I see Lewis and Holmes as the most dangerous/troublesome opponents for Ali. Lewis because he had very good skills, coupled with size and reach - which could give Ali lots of problems. Holmes had one of the best heavyweight jabs ever, and wouldn't have to worry about Ali's power. Prime vs prime, Ali could be in for a very tough night here, and it's hard to envisage anything other than a close fight going the distance. ... and of course, both Frazier and Norton would always give even prime Ali hell!
Ali's toughest opponents would be - Larry Holmes Joe Frazier Ken Norton Joe Louis Lennox Lewis Cassius Clay
