I always pictured Ali having trouble with the Klitschko's. It's really hard to invision the smaller heavyweights of the past dealing with today modern day giants especially the Klitschko's. Lennox Lewis also at certain points in his career I think would've been lots of trouble for Ali with his size and technique. Larry Holmes would be a tough fight for Ali or any heavyweight as well and possibly Marciano in a 15 round fight could give Ali a little trouble down the stretch though I think Ali was so much more skilled that he might stop Marciano before the fight gets to that point. Still if I had to pick a winner I'd take a prime Ali against any heavyweight. Another note I think if Ali and Holyfield fought in there primes it would make for one of the best matchups in history something about there styles makes me think they'd certainly bring out the best in each other.

In this post you have shown your own futile existence, and the sum total of your imbecility in one fell swoop.

You are so fvcking ignorant ( typically Murican ) you don't even know you are ignorant.

The whole story of Ali is he transcended boxing. He made the WORLD become interested in boxing again. Nobody outside of FVCKING America gave a **** about fvcking useless Floyd Patterson, or scabby Sonny Liston. No one.

So you're poxy Murican newspapers, and you're poxy Murican spin on the dirty filthy racist attitude of you're kuntish country 5 years after the New Jersey riots only impressed bugs and earwigs like you.

The civilised world got to hear what really happened, including recorded interviews by the participants, not your sewage works of a country's version of it.

So when he said. " I'm not crying. Joe Frazier's a true champion " etc etc etc. We saw and heard him say it.

We didn't take some poxy Murican journalists interpretation of the interview seriously, the way fools like you did.

    Therein lies the difference.

How dare you make a post that actually addresses the question asked in the title of the thread?
    The arrogance of some people!
ps .I think Ali's speed would be the undoing of the Klit's.
Lewis would be a tough nut to crack for Ali , but then stylistically I think he would for anyone.
Marciano I think would be stopped by tko late .Too slow afoot , but he would provide Ali with some very hairy moments along the way. Holmes would be very hard, and Evander as you say is a real tough war.

Now Houlouni's garbage has ceased to be relevant to the thread and it appears to be back on topic, I'm amazed at people selecting Holyfield to be a choice of those who would give Ali nightmares.

Evander though without a doubt a true warrior ( perhaps a stronger, more upright Joe Frazier ) seemed to me to be troubled by handspeed ( Bowe comes to mind, good handspeed for a big guy ) and even when he couldn't dance Ali had that in abundance. I see it as an easy wide UD for Ali.

I fully concur with your assessment about an Ali-Holyfield bout

Well, I wouldn't say I'm amazed because Holy was a damn good fighter, but overall I tend to agree. I've said it elsewhere, but to me Evander never looked particularly hot when he had to go on the offensive and go looking for his man.

I'm not looking at the Bowe fight because he had Bowe right in front of him all night, I'm talking about where Holyfield had to be the aggressor throughout. If we're talking about the Ali of the 60's, when he was at his most elusive, I don't think Holyfield has the required toolset to make life particularly uncomfortable for Ali.
Ali would be wise enough to know not to trade bombs with Holyfield and provide him with counter punches, which Evander was so adept at.

For me, Ali would be a step ahead of Evander for most of the fight, with Holyfield providing one or two interesting moments, but nothing to truly alarm Ali.

Does anyone think that Ali would have trouble with some of the smaller heavyweight champs? I ask this because he had the speed advantage versus most of his opponents, and maybe this wouldn't be as clear cut against lighter opponents such as Ezzard Charles. Do people make too much out of size, generally, or is it a massive consideration?

Actually the 2nd Patterson fight Floyd was able to land quite often on Ali with his fast combinations.

I noticed that, and that's the type of thing I mean. Could Ezzard Charles do the same in and out, flurry and move thing to Ali?
