Who had a better blend of Speed and Power?

It's tricky to answer questions like this. I'd say Jones.

 

I'd probably say Jones; he started out in the am's as a superwelter and had ferocious power for most of his career. He even carried the power up to HW.

 

Mike Tyson.

Roy Jones was not as devastating a puncher imo, his accuracy and speed coupled with good power, albeit not spectacular are what did away with his opponents more than anything, although i know you can make a case that with his KO wins over Glen Thomas, Glenn Wolfe who both went the distance with Toney, his KO of Malinga who went the distance with Benn & Eubank could suggest that he was just as devastating of a puncher, then there are his spectacular KO's of Art Serwano, Thomas Tate.

When i saw Jones against guys like Telesco, Gonzalez, Mike McCallum, Lou Del Valle, Johnson going the distance with Roy then it kinda pointed to that Roy was not that big a puncher at LHW, particularly against Telesco. I think if he was that devastating of a puncher p4p he would of carried his power to LHW, he had a good stoppage win over Hill but the Brannon's, Richard Hall, Glen Kellys of the world dont prove that much.

 

Tyson, easy.

 

Tyson. His natural punching power was far greater than Jones pound for pound. His speed was about equal "pound for pound" Tyson was very quick.

 

I would say at 168 Jones's power was only a little behind Tyson's p4p, but his speed was quite some way ahead. Come on, Tyson was damn fast, but Superman Jones was another level.

 

I'm hard pressed to think of any fighter who could deliver more damage-per-second than Tyson.

Yeah, a couple of heavyweights may have had slightly more one-punch power (Shavers, Foreman), but Tyson could deliver 3 punches of nearly equal power in that same time frame.

 

This ones been done before, I struggled then for an answer but now I have one..... Tyson.

In a p4p sense - both at their peaks - Roy is a bit faster than Mike but I think the power gap is more in Tyson`s favour than the speed is in Roy`s so my answer is Tyson.

Joe Louis was also one of the best ever combining speed n power.

 

Can only think of a couple heavyweights that would even come close to the speed of Tyson.

 

Ali & Louis probably..... unless you want to throw in Patterson too.

I he didnt have huge power at lightheavyweight but it was decent, and the speed made it devestating



I find this question impossible to answer though, my first instinct was Tyson but I dont know why. They both had the right mix for their styles.

 

Well Jones is significantly faster, Tyson probably has better P4P power BUT Tyson is more aggressive, Jones is usually far less aggressive but he has 1 punch kos of his own so that puts some bias on Tysons P4P power imo although I'd still say Tyson had better P4P power, plus Tyson was KO'ing bigger men
