On the whole GGG has a lot more solid scalps, but Trinidad, Joppy and ODLH are pretty weighty names.

While Jacobs, Lemieux, Murray are good, I dunno if they are as good as a ODLH for example. I think Canelo's scalp might push him over the top.

Edit: if we have to consider the WAY that the wins have been won, then Golovkin all the way. He's been nothing but crushing.

GGG on the whole, as stated, and dispatched them more impressively.

The Canelo win would make it not even close doe

Hopkins and even if GGG beats Canelo, still Hopkins. Tito alone is better than Brook or Canelo, Tito would KO both of them. De La Hoya was better than Brook. Joppy and Holmes both long term titlists, Johnson a future light heavyweight champion. Eastman is on a similar level to Murray, maybe better. Honestly I think it's pretty clear Hopkins had a better reign as champion.

Only way you think Golovkin's reign was better is if you think Canelo beats Tito. Brook beats De La Hoya and if you think that I think your opinion doesn't mean much.

BHOP is an ATG but his reign at 160 isn't the strongest his best wins are from people who peaked at WW

If GGG best wins were Brook, Thurman and spence he would get ripped to pieces for it

so i think to accurately assess GGG's reign, you have to look not just at his resume but also at the context.

his list of conquests as well as the brutality with which he dispatched them is impressive--but far more impressive would be a list that also included, for instance:

    Carl Froch

    Sergio Martinez

    Miguel Cotto

    Felix Sturm

    Peter Quillen

    Billy Joe Saunders

    Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
would GGG have beaten every figher on this list? We'll never know because GGG tried very hard to get every one of them in the ring, but they outright refused, and in each case, that refusal ("duck" or whatever else you wish to call it) is well documented.

(this is not a complete list of fighers who have ducked GGG--i've just parsed out some high profile fighters who GGG publicly called out and who refused the challenge as a matter of well-documented public record)

to put it another way, the quality of GGG'd dominance of the MW division has to be determined by looking at the guys who got in the ring with him as well as those who refused to fight GGG

because unlike for any fighter whose career i've followed (as a boxing fan for 30 years) that list is long and filled with elite fighters

I can't believe how many fans and members of the media are counting Golovkins regular WBA belt as a legitimate world title.
    Its disheartening.

ggg, hops era truly was horrific, when you have to fight R Allen 3x, smg wrong. and his best opponents were odh and for I, enough said

it's not too close for me, and if he beat canelo and whoever owns the wbo it's a non question

They are pretty much even, but if I had to pick, I would favor GGG because he has been more dominant.

Btw. both have great resumes and both belong to top 10 MW ATG. Who is higher is a matter of opinion.

Consider this H2H Lemiuex would probably stop DLH. To be honest Golovkin has a better reign. And Golovkin's MW reign is not particularly incredible. It's just that Hopkins 160 pound reign is criminally overrated.

Considering they wanted nothing to do with him and as you put it outright refused. One could then logically conclude that yes, those fighters knew wtf they were refusing, a beatdown.

And let's not forget Hopkins had his first six fights at light heavy and his best wins at MW were against blown up welters. GGG would be crucified for that too.

This. There would be absolutely no one to defend him and by beating welters he would not be rated as Ring P4P #1 for two years in a row. No way in he...

Ring is still rating Canelo as #1 in their MW ranking even though he has never even fought at 160.

THESE ARE THE DOUBLE STANDARDS THAT BOXING IS SO FAMOUS FOR.
