Tyson never got knocked down during his unbeaten streak. Jones got floored once during his peak years, and showed a chin weakness.

Aura of invincibility = Mike Tyson

    Both are good options..

But at the end of the day Tyson seemed light years ahead of anyone else.

    Terrible Tim was blackballed, yeah.

Duva wanted nothing to do with Tyson after Spinks and his man needed more time and work prior to Bruno and Williams. Holyfield was signed up to fight the winner of Douglas-Tyson. Tyson ran through numerous No. 1/No. 2 rated contenders through his entire reign, so really he did fight the best from 86-91.

    Pure speculation.

No doubt in my mind Tyson legitimately feared him by 1997 though as a shell of the fighter he once was and being a mental trainwreck and all. That's fine, just don't bull**** and revise history.

  4. Ranking at the beginning of the year when they fought Tyson

    Trevor Berbick Rank 8
    James Smith Rank 3
    Pinklon Thomas Rank 4
    Tony Tucker Rank 9
Tyrell Biggs Not a top 10 ranked heavyweight
Larry Holmes Not a top 10 ranked heavyweight
Tony Tubbs Not a top 10 ranked heavyweight
    Michael Spinks Rank 1
Frank Bruno Not a top 10 ranked heavyweight
    Carl Williams Rank 3
James Douglas Not a top 10 ranked heavyweight
Alex Stewart Not a top 10 ranked heavyweight
    Donovan Ruddock Rank 10

  5. 6 out 13 fighters Tyson fought were not even top 10 ranked.

Only 3 out of the 13 were ranked in the top 3.

When Tyson came out of prison he fought Tomato cans that would make Wlad blush.

Chucked his title away rather than face Lewis.

    Annual Ratings.

Why are you including Tyson in the ratings: Can he fight himself? Spinks was the recognized RING Champion despite losing to Holmes in the rematch and fighting Steffan Tangstad and Gerry Cooney while his promoter held up negotiations and angled for the highest payout he could get for a fight with Tyson.

Berbick beat No. 1/WBC titlist Pinklon Thomas in March prior to fighting Tyson in November. He was No. 1 under 'Spinks'. Bonecrusher was rated just underneath 'Spinks' and Tyson, thus making him the highest rated fighter Tyson could've fought as well; after he lost, who moves up just behind him? Thomas. Tucker defeated Douglas in May and was the only remaining titlist in the unification tournament. Spinks gave up his IBF strap to not face Tucker and took a money fight with Cooney. In July '87-- C: Spinks, 1: Tyson, 2: Tucker. The Spinks fight finally came off in July '88 and we know what happened. Carl Williams was No. 2 behind Champion Tyson and No. 1 Holyfield who wasn't ready. Going into 1991, the Ring did away with their title: 1-Holyfield, 2-Tyson, 3-Ruddock.

    Oh yeah, this thread.

At the time Tyson fought them (not including himself for obvious purposes):

    Berbick (No. 1)
    Smith (No. 1)
    Thomas (No. 1)
    Tucker (No. 1)
    Biggs (No. 9)
    Spinks (Lineal Champ)
    Williams (No. 2)
    Douglas (No. 7)
    Ruddock x2 (No. 1)

Holmes would school an undefeated Ray Mercer four years later to earn a title shot at Holyfield. He went the distance with him and took at least four rounds; didn't last four with Tyson.

I don't like both and they are way overrated but people thought tyson was god before he got beat by douglas. Both were beating up tomato cans but tyson did it pretty brutally.

  11. Tyson got beaten in his prime years though.

Roy was well past it when he started losing to that level of fighter.

Roy beat some prime greats, Tyson never did.

But people bought into the Tyson hype more.

Have to go with Tyson on this one. A lot of his opponents lost the fight before they even stepped into the ring
