Im a young guy so i was not able to watch lopz in his prime but from the footage i have seen(youtube). He was a pure boxer with a hell of a punch.
Mayweather i think has alot to do with handpicking and he is a hell of an athlete. I gotta admit he is fast as hell and also smart but his boxing skill is not the greatest.

I say the better boxer is definately lopez but people of course dont know of him since he was in the lowest weight class.
The best pure boxer ever could be ricardo lopez. Its like he read a boxing book and followed it all the way to the end. Mayweather is moslty due to athleticism in which of course he his greater than Lopez in.

Was anybody ever better than Lopez as just pure plain textbook boxer?
All you old timers fill me in...

Lopez was probably the most textbook sound boxer I've ever seen, but that wouldn't make him the best pure boxer, or the most effective. We never got to see him against any elite opposition until the end portion of his career when already past his prime against Alvarez, and we saw how he struggled there.

A guy like Hilario Zapata at 108 was probably a better "pure boxer", he just lacked the power and durability. Miguel Canto was a better and more proven pure boxer, arguably the best of all time, any weight class.

Its comparing apples and oranges. Lopez was a textbook example of boxing. Mayweather relies more on athleticism. Both are amazing in their own right.

mmmmm no!!!! he proved he could beat Zab a fighter with faster hands and feet , that he doesn't have relying on his hand speed, reflexes to out class his opponents .

Floyd has proven he can box , slug , counter and lead . even if floyd didn't have his speed, his ring experience and boxing skill would more then take up the slack..

Lopez was great, plain and simple. PBF is great, too. He has more athletic ability, but he is also very technical. They both know how to win. I would give the edge to Floyd, because the man has lived a crazy life that would distract almost any fighter, yet he is able to set controversy aside and come to fight every time. I've never seen a fight with so many distractions come into a fight as prepared as he is.
