Who had better boxins skills: Hopkins or Mayweather Jr ?

I'd say Mayweather has better reflexes and athleticism, with Hopkins having better skills. Good question though.

 

Hopkins without question. Floyd is a better athlete. Hopkins knows the game in and out. Every trick in the book.

 

I'd say as far as technical skills they are about even, but FMJ is far more athletic, and he doesn't have to rely on dirty tactis to get the job done.

 

I liked Mayweathers offense better hes more effective and dosent wait till round 6(well he does sometime)

I like Bernard defense better you come in there he will use his elbows, use his forearm head butts all taht good stuff

 

nah the smaller you are the weaker you are actually the bigger guys last longer

 

Hopkins isn't elite, man. But he does have Einstein-like boxing knowledge, and that's what has allowed him to last this long. That and incredible physical fitness for a guy his age.

 

*This is a ridiculous thread... Hopkins is one of the dirtiest fighters of all time.. not to mention one of the most un-entertaing fighters of all time... if the guy isn't hitting u with his head, he's throwing elbows... i've never seen a top fighter get away with so much...

Floyd Mayweather IMO has quite possibly the best combination of physical talent and boxing smarts/fundamentals I've ever seen.

That being said, I think Hopkins is a SMARTER fighter, but one with significantly less tools.

But watching Bernard Hopkins fight is like watching a chess prodigy play a novice. He's the only fighter I've seen who so clearly makes fighters fall into "traps" all around the ring. You can almost WATCH him dissect his opponent.

 

No way Floyd is more "skilled." Could Floyd be as successful without the speed? Ask that question.

 

No Hopkins is more skilled.

 

I can't think of a single category where Hopkin's wins. The only edge that any fighter has on Floyd is punching power and punch output. Punch output is not always indicative of superiority because you are open to get KOd (Katsidis vs Casamayor was a perfect example).

 

That's the thing...Floyd right now has more athletic ability than Bernard ever had, and Bernard has had to completely overhaul his skillset to account for his diminished athletic ability over the years.
