Ali had faster hands. Tyson were fast, but he was also closer to his target. With Tyson it was all style. He stayed in close with great defense and bobbing and weaving, so when the other guy missed he was in range to land his short punches. When he got older his bobbing and weaving didn't work as well and he was hit cleaner.

I agree that Ali was the fastest HW ever BUT Tyson could throw bombs faster than any HW I've seen, I mean he could really load up on those shots and still throw fast combos, he was amazing in his day

Ali was fast in a calzaghe sort of way, Ali= the old school slapper, prime to prime Ali fans are in for a shock. he would have got instant parkinsins!

Actually Ali wasn't a slapper at all, he was blazing fast while landing some solid shots. He wasn't a big puncher, but Foreman said he hit about as hard as Holyfield, or harder. Watch his fights with Patterson, they had a great angle from behind when Ali was sending in one-two combinations. He threw two in a row, the first with some force, and when Patterson wasn't hurt enough to suit him he immediately followed with a combo you could barely see, but you could hear it landing sure enough and it made Patterson's knees buckle.

It wasn't by accident that Ali stopped some of the most fearsome fighters the sport has ever seen.

You probably think Ray Robinson would have struggled in todays WW division then since his prime was over 50 yrs ago, right ?

voted tyson. I believe ali had the fastest single punch ie (Jab) etc but, for combination punching i dont think there where many at all faster than tyson. The speed at which he put combos together was unbelievable.

ali had better handspeed but tyson was not far behind. and whatt tyson so scary is that he would throw violent power punches with such great speed. ali had better speed but tyson has the best combination of speed and power maybe of any heavy

Ali's combos were proverbial greased lightning. His combos from the outside were the quickest of any heavy.
