Holmes is my 5th favorite fighter but him having more stamina than Marciano is just nonsense. Holmes and Marciano are pretty close in heart imo but Marciano is more proven (despite what some of his detractors may have you believe).

I don't think that any heavyweight ever matched Maciano for stamina over fifteen rounds.

His punch output was more what you would expect from a welterweight.

As for heart, I have no problem with calling it a tie, since neither man ever showed any lack of it.

On face value i give both 10-10 for both. If pushed i might drop Holmes to a 9 for stamina. Two of the most determined heavyweights to ever breathe.

I don't think it was that Marciano had so much heart but more like the will to win. From everything I've read on him it seems like he fought entirely for money and not really that he loved boxing. I'm sure Holmes, like every other boxer, fought for the money but he probably loved the sport although I must admit I haven't bothered to read much on Holmes because he doesn't spark my interest so I could be completely wrong about him. Heart seems more like a trait that Ali, for example, portrayed. In fights like rumble in the jungle he was going against the odds and against Liston he was going against the odds yet he never faltered and was very vocal about how much he wanted to fight them.

Stamina is for Marciano here. I've seen a lot of Holmes fights and he never showed a Marciano-like work rate. He was good for 15 but he wasn't throwing double the average for heavyweights.

Yes. Heart to me has to do with more of the love of fighting and boxing. Marciano was determined to get that paycheck imo.

I have to say i am confused. Nobody loved the money more than Larry and he is on record many times as such as well as disparaging boxing.

Like I said in the post, I haven't bothered much to do any research on Holmes and that I very well may have been wrong about him.

For the record I voted draw in the heart category.

Agreed though, I'd say Marciano is more proven. Holmes never displayed heart like going on with his nose split to the bone.

In terms of stamina I'd rank it Marciano>Frazier>Ali>Holmes.

I would have Frazier and Ali on an even playing field with Holmes just a shade under because of his lack of ring wars that we saw Frazier and Ali engaged in.

They could both go 15 rounds without getting tired. And they both got up off the canvas after taking a huge shot that would have knocked out a lesser fighter, it's too inconclusive to say who had more of what they both had in spades. Marciano would run 10 miles supposedly every day so I guess him but like I said a stamina advantage is irrelevent if they both can go over the maximum rounds

Holmes could NOT go 15 rounds without being utterly exhausted. One only need to look at his fight with Norton at his absolute peak.

I think peak for peak Frazier had more stamina because of the way their styles operated.
