Who had more heart and stamina Holmes or Marciano?

Holmes won 4 15 rounders. Marciano won 1.

Let's talk more about proven stamina.

 

I can see that

 

All that shows is Marciano was a greater knockout artist than Holmes.

 

A) We are arguing stamina and this shows that Holmes was more proven over the long haul. And you have already surrendered that argument.

B) It is important to look at who exactly Marcino was KO'ing before making such conclusions.

I haven't surrendered anything. You just provide faulty evidence that doesn't validate your claim. Stamina isn't the only thing that determines how long the fight lasts. Are you purposefully being misleading?

If Holmes was the greater knockout artist then he would have been been knocking out guys faster or in larger numbers. Marciano was 185 and fought guys proportional to that weight. Holmes was 215-220 and fought guys proportional to that weight. It's not like Marciano was 220 picking on 190 lb guys.

 

Holmes had a style that emphasized economy of effort, while Marciano had a style that required lavish expenditure of effort.

We would have to give it to Marciano on this, if nothing else!

 

I am going with Marciano, with the way he could open up in rounds 10-15. There were few fighters, much less heavyweights that could put work in the way he did in the late rounds.

 

I honestly don't believe you can show anymore heart in the ring than Marciano and Holmes did, so it's an irrelevant and void question. Both battled through moments that are for their own reasons both huge moments in heavyweight history... Marciano having his nose badly sliced down the middle and continuing as if nothing had happened, and Holmes rising from one of the hardest punches the nuclear punching Acorn ever threw only to rise and battle back to win... Well, I don't think there's any kind of litmus test you could do beyond the point of bravery each already showed.

Norton was no heavily disputed. It was generally seen as a close but just decision pivoting on the 15th round where in Holmes bravely came back, demonstrating his amazing stamina, and captured the title.

Williams was seen as an upandcomer but seriously.... an old Holmes won that one fairly straight away, winning the final 5 rounds, throwing 50 punches in the 14th, up on his toes dancing in the 15th, again displaying amazing stamina. If anything, he can be faulted for starting too slow and being too old.

What is in dispute is the second Spinks fight that went 15.

 

Norton was 34 years old, Cobb was a bum, Williams was green and overmatched, Berbick was overmatched too, the odds were 50 to 1. He had no chance. Jesus, Holmes's resume is worse than I thought.
