I guess we'll never know though, I have to say now that I've voted. Lewis retired and hasn't come back. Holmes fought till he was 163.

Overall Holmes was the better heavyweight and he was pretty good well into his 40s.

But I think the Lewis who fought Klitchko was probably a little better than the Holmes that fought Tyson.

Holmes was being out boxed by the likes of Spinks, and nearly got killed by Tyson in his late 30's. Lewis was still on top.

    Lewis never fought past 37.

He beat Klitschko before he was 38, then retired a few months later.

That's the thing, last we saw of Lennox he was far from in superior condition and it's hard to gauge what he had left considering that condition. And even still, he beat a guy who at 38 now is going pretty strong himself. We can't say what he had left because he didn't keep going. Whereas Holmes kept going, and going, and kicking and punching Trevor Berbick, and going, and going....

Ok then for the purpose of the poll, compare Lewis at 36, 37, and 37 3/4 if you must to Holmes at the same age. In fact Holmes was more out of shape with extra fat in his late 30's in comparison to Lewis.

The Lewis who fought Klitschko has no trouble with the Spinks who defeated Holmes.

This poll has nothing to do with who was better in their prime. The question is who was more formidable and better in their mid to late 30's.

tough question holmes was better against mercer than he was against tyson ,and lewis was out of shape and in his own mind was ready to retire by the time he fought vitali.also as holmes has always said he was not given enough time to get ready by don king for the tyson fight.saying that if the holmes that fought tyson was to fight the lewis of the vitali fight i would pick lewis to win

but prime for prime a would take holmes

I think the Holmes was that fought Tyson was at least as good as the version that beat Mercer. Remember the opposition he was fighting Mercer was green and not in tip top shape, Tyson was still a beast in his prime. The Holmes that fought Tyson would have still whupped Mercer.

i agree the holmes of the tyson fight would of beaten mercer but i dont think he would of looked as good he had not enough time to get ready for tyson was not in fighting condition ,holmes himself says he was rushed into the fight with tyson with not enough time to get ready properly
