    I've reviewed some footage of their first match since my previous post about them on this thread, and Louis was indeed confused by Godoy's advancing crouch. (Decades later, just hour before his passing, Joe would ironically observe Berbick break the lengthy championship stoppage streak of Holmes using very similar tactics. Staying low, and keeping the opponent in a grudging steady retreat is a fine strategy for survival, but not for winning a title.)

    Holmes was masterful at mid fight, or even mid round adaptations to suddenly changing and unexpected situations during his prime, a key reason why he's one of my top three HW champions.

    Very well articulated. Louis was indeed lethally consistent, while Dempsey didn't give his prey much of a chance to breathe, when at his best.

    Good point, that a lot of experts fail to see, he had tailor made punches and a rythym breaking style because of it. Rocky fought at a crazy tempo and his punches were unique
