Winky Wright defense was respectable , but am i the only one that realize certain fighters did penetrate his defense every now and then . Vargas did , Taylor did , and even Mosley got threw at times and rocked him in their rematch .I wont credit Williams for getting through given the fact Winky was Past it and coming off a 2 year lay off .

Different types of defence, if I was a fighter I'd want Winky's as, like with Whitaker, Mayweather's reflexes and speed of foot will go and those parried punches will start landing.

Its close between Pernell and Floyd. PBF offence flows better from his D but I have to give it to Pernell. Winky is a brilliant fighter but not on the level of the ATGs like Floyd, Pernell, Benitez, pep and Loche

Whitaker's defence was tested against Chavez, who was a higher level of opponent than anyone Mayweather has fought. He also fought a younger, faster De La Hoya than Mayweather did, and made him look pretty bad at times. (Although Mayweather had to deal with going up in weight to face the bigger guy.)

On the other hand, Mayweather has only been genuinely knocked down once (against Judah) while Whitaker was knocked down a handful of times. Mayweather also gets hit less in general.

I would say that Whitaker is better in terms of evasive footwork and upper body fluidity. Mayweather is better at parrying and rolling away from shots.

agreed, both guys are/were great defensively. Both use the best defense that's on par with their style ans physical ability

Floyd and is not really close. Whitaker really just a mover, bob, weave and duck. He really doesn't block punches but more so rely on his upperbody movement. Floyd got multi-dimensional defense and more layers to his defense. A type of defense that works in every range or situation.

Whitaker is more of a showman with his defense, although it is hard to hit him, it is extremely stamina taxing and most cases uneffective to retaliate after his defense is completed.

Most boxers CAN duck, sway, and bob constantly but they don't for a reason.

Whitaker is the best. Winky Wright does not belong on the list.

In his prime Whittaker had the better defense & proved against better opposition, its just a shame his prime was so short due to his drug addiction.
Mayweather has just done it for a longer period of time, not as slick/flashy as Sweat Pea though.
Stinky Winky! are you being serious..

No, it more has to do with Whitaker's level of opposition. He fought better opponents than floyd ever did and ever will.

Whitakers prime was not short at all, he was the champ until he was 32 over 4 different weight classes

It aint just floyd's reflexes though. He can stand in front and just catch, parry and roll shots.

anyone who knows boxing can tell you...

floyd has never faced anyone as good as felix trinidad or tommy hearns.

floyd got a split decision over a faded 154 oscar.

whitaker got robbed against a prime 147 oscar.

whitakers first real loss was to trinidad at the age of 35.

    benitez deserves mention.

whitakers defense was something special that you cannot teach.

    floyds defense is more practical.
