Cotto would not in a million years have a 22 % accuracy against Whitaker

Don't forget to mention that Pernell had been in and out of rehab for years before fighting Trinidad

Ok, I voted Mayweather, Pernell was great but I think Floyd takes this one.

Winky shouldn't be on the list.

Of these three I give a slight edge to Mayweather over Whitaker. Wright had a tight guard -- like a shell. Nothing all that slick about it though.

While I think Wright is a very good fighter his defence is simply not as good as the very best defensive fighters or recent times like Mayweather, Whitaker, Hopkins and Toney. His defence was pretty basic high guard and we saw in the Hopkins fight how easily it was to overcome this. He lacked the multi facted defence the very best fighters had.

I voted Whitaker, at his best he was practically untouchable, his head movement was better than any other fighter I have seen. He was untouchable even on the inside, you would see him out of position, trapped in a corner and he still wouldn't get hit cleanly. The way he would drop down so low and you think he was off balance or immobile but he could still evade punches, even slipping punches he couldn't possibly see coming, he seemed to have an internal radar.

But it's very close, Mayweather is the best defensive fighter of his generation. Simply great technique combined with great reflexes and a multi faceted defense. He has mobility, head movement, great awareness, superb guard and timing. I believe much like Hopkins once his physical attributes have abandoned him he will still be able to compete at the highest level simply due to the fact his technique is head and shoulders above everyone else.

But I think Whitaker on his best day was slightly more elusive and harder to hit than Mayweather on his best day. Whitaker's unorthodox style and greater natural talent just edges Mayweather's superior technical skills.

The Pea was the hardest to hit.

PBF's defense is better suited to be in the position to counter. Pea was more elusive but it left him out of position to counter. You really can't go wrong with either IMO.

Whitaker. Floyd ducked Pacman or didn't fight him. Floyd's defense doesn't work on southpaws, which is why he almost lost to castillo twice and why he is trying to be difficul for the pacman fight. Whitaker beat all the best around at his time. He did not always get the decision but he beat them all. No one could touch him when he didn't want to be touched. Of guys who fought over lightweight and welter from the 80s and 90s forward he is right behind duran.

Mayweather has a great defense, but in years to come Rigo's will prove superior!
