sugar ray Robinson Manuel Ortiz willie pep mike Tyson Muhammad ali willie pastrano Ivan Calderon azumah nelson Salvador sanchez joe frazier what do you think? just to clarify I do know there are many other great fighters with footwork ability to cut of the ring and create angles and I do appreciate these men, but these are my favourites
Gene Tunney Benny Leonard Freddie Steele Ray Leonard Julio Cesar Chavez Pernell Whitaker Floyd Mayweather
I think you've gone for all the fancy movers. Footwork isn't all about leaping about like a landed fish. Joe Louis had sensational footwork. Fighting Harada had sensational footwork. Joe Calzaghe-Bernard Hopkins is a footwork clinic. None of these guys fit the mould outlined above. But, yeah, those guys all have great footwork tbf. I'd add Johnny Famechon if that's the question.
Apart from the already mentioned. I think McCallum's footwork was sensational. His fight against Harding might be the greatest exhibition of footwork, I've ever seen. And from there Kalambay of course springs to mind. I'm a big fan of Marquez' footwork as well. Joe Frazier deserves a mention as one of the best ever at aggressive footwork and cutting of the ring. Salvador Sanchez hasn't been mentioned either has he?
ggg is worth a mention I like the way he always get himself into position to throw his power shots and keeps sturdy balanced also he is great at cutting of the ring joe Frazier as well had good footwork and positioning always making sure that his right foot is on the outside of the opponents left this meaning when he throw that hook its gonna hit you somewhere arm body head. roman Gonzales also has fantastic footwork when it comes to cut the ring off and hunting you down. pivoting right to left quick feet changes to cut opponents movement. another mention is haggler in his southpaw stance he used his footwork well to angle them off and attack I choose these fighter because there footwork is how I try to box so they stand out to me
The Welterweight SRR supposedly could do it all....but not enough film is around of that version of Robbie. When you go 120-1 (?) as defined by the WW Champion standards, and then move up to defeat MW Jake Lamotta and become MW Champ, he obviously was doing something right regarding footwork.
First that come to mind for me are: Pep Whitaker Mayweather Rigondeaux Honorable mention to Camacho, SRL, and maybe Lomachenko. Great call.
