Holmes did better with his jab against Norton than Ali did, though. Age probably played a part, but how much, who knows.

I also can't remember a fight I've seen with Holmes where his jab wasn't dominant, no matter his age. Ali didn't have many fights where his jab didn't dominate, but he did have some. Not in his prime, but still...

So, yeah, Holmes has a good case over Ali, but Ali's jab in the 60's was just so fast, well timed and accurate. Maybe it was because there weren't any Nortons then, but I have hard time overlooking how good it looks.

Ali also threw the jab from so many angles + different types of jabs

When thinking of a jab, Holmes immediately pops to mind.

Wlad had a quality jab. So did Lewis.

Ali's jab may have been the most effective. It was a key weapon in making him arguably the greatest heavyweight of all time.

Joe Louis had the greatest most crippling punishing jab in history. And s hands were fast. Some who saw him said as fast as ali. And the jab set upthe combinations of which pd for pd I believe JOE was better than anyone else at.

Holmes was I'd say the best, Liston's second. Foreman's third. Ali and Buster Douglas also had very good jabs.

I've seen and read many a opinion having Louis as the greatest HW of all time. Though I've seen pretty much every fight of his available online it's always that thunderbolt of a right hand that I most notice about his arsenal. I'm not as knowledgeable as some of you here, when it comes to certain time periods admittedly I'll have to re-watch some of Louis' work and pay attention to his jab more. But it stands to reason as hard as he hit with both hands he would have a booming jab, all while being very ridged yet technical. He was very calculated to watch work until he got his man in trouble, at which point he's probably the best HW finisher until Tyson came along to at least put someone else's name in the conversation.

Holmes had the better and harder jab than Ali imo. Obviously it was very fast and accurate, but it also had plenty of strength. Multiple people, including Shavers and Holyfield noted that his jab was very hard. He solidly dropped Ocasio with a jab and very few, if any, were able to go through it and force Larry to use punches other than his jab to be a main factor for him winning a fight. The strength of his jab was a primary reason he was able to compete into his 50s. People weren't willing to simply take it and get to him. A big key to Ali's jabbing success was his own movement. Larry was able to be more stationary and still dictate action with his jab, which is why I think his jab was better. At 45 or 46 he was able to routinely snap McCall's head back with his jab.

Foreman had a ramrod jab that had great timing, but it strangely was strong enough to actually work against him. It would sometimes knock opponents out of range of his follow up punches and therefore actually be a detriment to his offence. George's jab could keep people under control, but I don't think he would have as much success as Ali or Holmes if he were limited to using his jab alone.

KO: You also exchanged jabs with three of the greatest jabbers of all time: Ali, Foreman, and Holmes.
    Who was the best?

KenNorton: Ali. His jab was quick and it was deceptive. Ali was Ali. His combinations were crisp and sharp. His jab was crisp and sharp. His right hand lead wasn't really powerful, but it was very accurate. There will never be another Ali.
