Frazier got dropped 2x by Bonavena, Mike Bruce and was staggered in several fights,Ali staggered him in fight 2 and Terry Daniels and Ron stander and Manuel Ramos stunned him....I think Marciano had a better defense and recovered quickly. I think Frazier took a good punch he got up 6x in the Foreman fight.....Marciano got hit by murderous one punch shots from Walcott and Moore but was never hurt....I think both men had good chins but Marciano's was better and I think he had a better defense than Frazier

What a great thread!!! And a phenomenal question....I may say its a Tie..But I will say Frazier had his chin tested WAY more than The Rock.

Marciano chin was made of steel.

He was hit numerous times directly on the chin and kept moving forward. I believe Louis even smacked him right on the chin and nothing happened.

Marciano's mind was his most powerful attribute.

isn't it all. I'm probably the only one that thinks Jirov-Marciano is a FOTC competitive as **** 50/50 fight. but yeah Foreman takes Marciano's head off

Impossible to say.. Both men were hit and hurt by different kinds of fighters.. Frazier was battered and stopped by George Foreman who hit harder than anyone Rocky fought, but Marciano was hit numerous times by guys who had a lot of accuracy.. Nothing solid enough to make a good comparison with.

fantasy match ups are also impossible to say. but everyone has no problem saying who they think wins. like assuming James Toney at 217lbs wouldn't be able to handle Rocky Marciano. well nobody knows goddamit

True, but in fantasy matchups you can also make stylistic comparisons or look at performances against similar types of opponents to draw conclusions. When judging the durability of two fighters chins you at least need to see how each man held up to punishment of a similar kind, for example, Muhammad Ali and Larry Holmes both took shots against world class punchers, and in one instance, were even hit by a common opponent ( Earnie Shavers. ) There's not much to go by when comparing Marciano or Frazier..

I'd say Marciano because I saw Frazier stunned more often, particularly against Chuvalo, Ramos, Stander, Quarry, etc. Both guys had good chins but Joe was hurt more.

Jerry Quarry wacked pretty good and in the first Frazier go he caught Joe on the button with some solid right hands that didn't seem to buzz him at all, and Walcott caught the Rock with some wicked looking shots that didn't seem to bother him much either. Bonnavena dumping Joe twice is the oddity in their two stories and Oscar was not a big banger.

They both knocked him down but he was never hurt? :patsch Only in a Marciano thread.

Anyway their chins were about even.
