He was up really quick though, 2 counts of 2 I think. But of course if you go down your legs went.

Thats IMHO a tough call....If forced to fall one way or the other I would edge towards Marciano.....More important to me than the chin issue, is in regards to defense...Marciano didn't seem to get hit flush as frequently as Joe, so to me that hides the disparity a little bit. I would say their chins are fairly even, but due to fighting styles, joe is likely to get hit flush/harder more frequently uping his chances of getting dropped.

Never heard of a flash knockdown?

I'd say he was hurt against Moore to be fair, though.

I'd say Marciano but it's hard to tell given on the whole given Frazier fought bigger men and was more frequently hit.

Monzon was decked by Valdes but I wouldn't say he was "hurt" just momentarily (split second really) stunned. Yet against Briscoe he was seriously hurt yet remained on his feet.

In any case even if Marciano was hurt the second he was up he showed no lasting effects. Like I said it's hard to say given Frazier fought bigger men, better men and was more often tagged then Marciano but was stunned and decked a fair bit throughout his career even against lesser opponents while Marciano was stunned and decked very, very rarily.

    that's a good point

Marciano's defense was better than given credt for, he protected his chin fairly well

This is a very tough question. I'm going to say Marciano, though as others have mentioned, he didn't get hit as much as Frazier did.

At the risk of coming across as a bit controversial, Marciano basically fought LHWs throughout his entire career whereas Frazier fought a number of men who weighed 200lb/210lb+. Usually, bigger guys punch harder. If you are going to compare Chins, I think this has to be taken into account.

There is a thing I call Stunned and a think called hurt but it could also be called great recuperative power. When Frazier was dropped by Bonavena 2X he looked hurt but to his credit he rallied, he was also visibly hurt in fights he did not go down in but I still think Frazier had a very good chin but Marciano had a better chin and a better defense and recuperative ability.

    Magoo,

The men Marciano fought were a lot more than just "accurate" punchers. Clearly none of them compare to George Foreman in terms of power, but perhaps your underselling there power?

Marciano fought guys who are rated # 1, # 4, and # 63 on Ring Magazine's top 100 greatest punchers of all time list. Marciano went 4-0 with 4 knockouts against these men.
