He did drop Tom in round 11 of their first bout and won, but Sharkey survived 20 rounds for the same reason Choynski and Ruhlin did with Jeff over the same distance, lack of experience on Jeff's part. Give Jeffries two good arms and I don't think Tom does much better than Ruhlin did in his 1901 title shot. Again, it is a fact that all the considerable physical damage Jeff inflicted on Sharkey at Coney Island came courtesy of his much less vaunted right, to the left side of Tom's head and body. In Jeff's final bout before dethroning Fitz, he fractured his left wrist against Bob Armstrong, causing that one to also go the scheduled limit.

Perfectly honest post ... Rocky showed a terrific chin to me in the first Walcott bout when he was dropped but survived the Walcott blitz that followed ... however, that aside he really never fought any big heavyweight punchers ... again, to Rocky's credit, he was smart enough to get out on top and stay out .. to have seen him crushed a few years later by a Liston or even a Patterson or a Johannsson would have severely altered perspective on him ..

As far as the better chin, who knows ? An incomplete to me ...
