Post exile Ali and it's not even close. Ali was able to beat an undefeated George Foreman. Tyson lost to the real first test when he faced since he was released when he fought Holyfield. His career as serious contender ended as well after the Holyfield fights. Ali beat Lyle,Foreman Shavers Norton and Frazier. Tyson best post prison win was Golota who pretty much froze up.
For real? Take away Manila, Zaire, FOTC, & Norton and Ali's 70's record is still light years ahead of Tyson after jail. Comeback Mike beat Seldon, Bruno, Botha, Nielsen. That's it. Short answer: if Mike had never fought again after Ruddock, his legacy is exactly the same (maybe better). If Ali's last guy was Folley, he's one of the great what-mighta-beens of boxing. A heavyweight Salvador Sanchez. He'd be hard to justify as top ten, let alone GOAT.
Definitely Ali .Tyson s comeback looked ,at first, to be looking good .Bruno beaten followed by Seldon ,but Holy field a few steps above showed Tyson s level at that stage . He never came close after to doing anything spectacular. Ali on the other hand ,beat Foreman ,Frazier ,Norton ,Lyle ,Shaver's So Ali's the clear winner.
Tyson was away longer than Ali.... Ali could at least spar during his exile, Tyson on the other hand couldn't.
if ali was two different people, clay and muhammad, each having a career pre and post, then each would be a top ten ATG for sure. not so with tyson.
Muhammad of course. Tysons legacy actually looks much better if he had just been struck by lightning and died after the second ruddock fight After jail the Best case scenario would have been beating Holyfield(which would have only been possible if Mike had the right mindset AND the conditioning he brought to the rematch) which he might not even gotten credit for because of Holyfield being percieved as shot. Then beating Bowe in97 which he would easily given the shaky punch resistance and lack of speed he showed at that time For this he would have gotten more credit than deserved End of 97-98 he would fight Lewis and that would be the last year could have been competitive due to Mike aging and taking punishment vs Holyfield and bowe But Mike would have never been successful for long after coming out of jail, even if his fighting spirit had remained intact and he trained right. The decline in speed from the Holyfield rematch(the last time he looked good) to the Lewis fight was always gonna happen with his style. He never had the size to be a long reigning champ
Ali's second career if we call it that was exceptional. That was better than Tyson's first. I think.. Actually post exile might be better than his before exile..
They were both away for three years and Ali didn`t spar during his lay-off which was why he never regained the same speed and his body aged and got softer.
Next question, because the answer to this question is simply not even on the same planet as far as accomplishments after Ali's comeback after his forced Lay off, compared to Tyson's comeback after prison. If someone actually thinks Tyson did better, they are simply completely blinded by their hatred for Ali, and probably thinks prime Ali would lose to Marvis Frazier.
