This has come up several times in other threads that compares their greatness, so I felt like making one that isolates this specific question.
I will go with Tyson on this one. He was a bob and weave guy with some good head movement. Frazier, was by no means a let's trade punches and see what happens fighter. However, he was a fighter who had some decent defense but was willing to take the punches to get to his opponent.
Tyson by a longshot his Peek a Boo style was very good and he was good enough at slipping pre Douglas he outjabbed excellent jabbers. Frazier himself said his defense was poor he bobbed and weaved under fighters because of his poor eyesight his defense was his perpetual movement and offense....Had Frazier fought in Tysons era with the bigger stronger fighters like Pinklon Thomas etc.....he gets stopped because he gets hit way too much. His style made for a short career
In the early rounds Tyson had superior defense, but as the fight went on he stopped moving while Frazier usually was a moving target the whole fight.
Both had good defense within their own parameters. Tyson shipped less at his best but Frazier was more relentless in his forward movement too.
Tyson slowed down as anyone would. He didn't stop moving. In contrast to what you're stating, Frazier slowed down during fights as well.
Smokin' Joe, he could bob and weave all day and hardly ever got tagged that way. Tyson started neglecting defense more once Rooney left. This content is protected
Yeah, Frazier was a slow starter and more hittable early, but over the course of fight I would pick him because of his consistency.
